The Insane Efforts By Police At Standing Rock North Dakota

what's messed up about the whole thing is real Native Americans are marred by this stupidity. The Standing Rock leadership allowed themselves to be manipulated by the white environmental activists. They would rope every minority into their act: blacks, gays, LBGT, Native Americans. I doubt these groups feel strongly about climate change as they do.
All the tribes pretty much universally have an issue: Getting media attention, ever. For anything. Working with other groups is generally a must for anything to hope for success, but it's a double edged sword. Also, when it comes to the public interest, tribal government- as opposed to the larger population- have (in my experience of working directly with them) been prone to corruption in many cases. I've never worked with that tribe or their government specifically, so take that with a grain of salt. Any issue involving the tribes is really an issue between a bunch of competing groups, even if it seems like something just between them and the feds (for example). Indian politics is very complicated.

yeah, I remember doing the same thing years back. When you're small you welcome any one joining you... as you get bigger, you have a lot of fringe groups piggy backing onto your cause. You have to actively distance yourself from these people before they dictate the tone of your movement.

It's a problem for native groups since time immemorial. Any kind of lobbying on behalf of the tribes is highly commodified.

I've found one persons charges from today

Charges: *** ***, Charolette ***
1. Hindering Law Enforcement 5677527 12.1-08-03 Misdemeanor A 02/22/2017
2. Physical Obstruction Of Government Function 5677526 12.1-08-01 Misdemeanor A 02/22/2017
3. Possession of a controlled substance, marijuana 5677528 19-03.1-23 Misdemeanor B 02/22/2017

In ND class A misdemeanor's are up to a year in jail and a max of a $3000 fine. Class B misdemeanor's are up to 30 days and a $1500 fine.
I've never seen anyone get jail sentence for a misdemeanor unless they got a felony and got it reduced.

Damn, the children getting hurt are confirmed. 7 year old boy and a 17 year old girl. The girl was severely burned and got medevaced to Minneapolis, I'm assuming Mayo Clinic.

North Dakota press conference, it's a long one. The camera rights itself at the 2 minute mark

0:35 trajedy confirmed
4:20 mark estimated 25-50 people left

9:00am Central Time the authorities are going back in. No clue if it's going to be a big push or what the deal is.

I'm seeing reports there was over 20 fires set yesterday.

Police are holding back while the Tribal Chairman goes to the camp to try to convince an elder to leave.

His hip wasn't broken

Protester smoking dope in the Casino and got arrested.

A bunch of journalists got kicked out of the Casino last night for recording. The Casino security asked the feds to remove the journalists.

edit: I'm not sure what group is doing what, so I'm just going to refer to the authorities as the police.

From the Teton Times, a local native paper
For the record ... it was not "Ceremonial" for our people to burn their tipi's and homes. That is not one of our Seven Sacred Ceremonies. And to compare this to Sandcreek Massacre and Wounded Knee and Washita, does a great injustice to what our ancestor's suffered. They were killed. And there is never any way to rewrite that shameful Chapter in the U.S. History books. The "Prayerful" protests didn't have to end this way. Shame on those who kept calling people back and asking people to stay for their own monetary benefit. Dec.5, the Chairman asked everyone to go home. Knowing that a brutal Great Plains Winter was upon us. On Dec.14, Cannon Ball District made a motion to close the camps. On Jan. 4, the SRST Council approved the District's motion. Again on Jan. 18, Cannon Ball District passed a Resolution, as their motion was being ignored. Again on Jan. 20, the SRST Council approved the District's Resolution. And remember, the Council took action in October setting aside 10 acres for a sustainable living community. And asked campers to move there. But no, "Leaders" attacked our tribal leaders for accomodating the water protectors. And told people to stay where they were. And the same leaders continued collecting donations, some in two and three and four, "gofundme" or paypal accounts. The peaceful and prayerful protests changed, even to the point where camp leaders were asking the tribal government, "What are you going to do about the Meth?" "What are you going to do about the rapes?" "What are you going to do about the alcohol parties?" "What are you going to do about the child molesters."
And these are some of the very main reasons that Cannon Ball District made their motion and resolution. And the reasons why the Tribal Council backed the District, because there was many unsafe situations happening. That and the people wanted the Backwater Bridge open again. Early on, tribal members advised the Tribal Council to sue the State of N.D. for the barricade. But with the protesters at the bridge every day antagonizing law enforcement and National Guard, this made any hope for a lawsuit later on an impossibilty. The information about the Meth, rapes, alcohol and child molesters came from Camp leaders and Water Protectors themselves! So the protest itself had changed and it was a time for the camps to end. So then, the hate was directed at our tribal leadership, our tribal government. Ridiculing our leaders and government. The people here on Standing Rock elected these leaders. We know if we want systematic change, it comes from us. We change the codes, it is up to us to change our constitution if that is what WE want. Yesterday was hard to watch. Because it did not have to end this way.

2:50 Oceti Sakowin Camp is pretty much gone.
They're moving on to Rosebud
3:06 Car tires are being burnt
3:12 BIA has taken over for the police
3:20 Just seen a blue van down by the river
3:24 Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Chief calling for an end to the Bureau of Indian Affairs

All the streams I was monitoring are down at the moment. Before they ended they had closed the Oceti and Rosebud camps. Road barricades were going up.
It appears they'll go for Sacred Stone, the one LaDonna Allard claims is hers but the Tribe says it's theirs, tomorrow.
There's a camp being set up someplace in South Dakota, I didn't catch exactly where though.

Meanwhile, North Dakota authorities have stopped offering free hotel vouchers to protesters after fighting broke out and rooms were damaged following Wednesday’s evacuation.

Only four hotel vouchers were given out during Wednesday’s emergency evacuation deadline...

A man who identified himself on the phone as the manager of the Comfort Inn said he believed there were evictions from three rooms that night. Those evicted were escorted out by Bismarck police.

Police reports show a 24-year-old man was arrested early Thursday at the hotel after assaulting his 18-year-old man brother, who told officers he had been punched in the head and face. No arrests were made, and both refused medical treatment.

A second police report says officers responded late Wednesday when a hotel guest reported hearing “a male hitting [a] female in [the] bathroom of [the] neighboring room.”

“Caller doesn’t know the ppl, they are from protester camp,” said the report.

The woman had a “fat lip” and “some scratches around her left eye,” while the male had “two deep lacerations on his left wrist with significant bleeding in the hotel bathroom.” He told police he had been drinking and that he was a cutter, and was taken to a local emergency room, according to the report.

Gofundme for the girl that got hurt in the explosion that morning

unbelievable. It's gonna cost so much money to clean this up, not that it hasn't cost a fortune to deal with them already
