That’s why so many wanted Stipe to lose

Nullifying a monster like Ngannou is no joke, but a fighter like Anderson Silva would never have done that, he would have chosen to fight Ngannou at his strengths rather than literally lay on top of them throwing pitter patter punches and occasionally glancing up at the ref for a stoppage due to fatigue.

Stipe is a great fighter no doubt, but for me as a paying fan wanting to watch these guys go to war, and I accept that not every fight can be a just bleed dream, but man, that fight stunk. Not saying I’m not happy unless someone’s eating canvas, but Miocic regularly puts in these types of performances when faced with a decent striker. Look at Mark Hunt fight for example.

Stipe St Pierre couldn’t be any further contrasting from the true champ Cain, who doesn’t look to feather his own nest by fighting super risk aversly, rather looks to savage his opponent from the very first bell
Oh please, he's coming off 4 first round KOs. Are JDS and Overeem not good strikers?

Stay salty

Cain 100% would have tried to wrestlefuck Ngannou. The issues are that he can't stay healthy for more than 7 minutes a year and his chin is meh at best. He'd probably get KO'd in that fight.

BS. Saying this is why fans wanted Stipe to lose implies that they all have crystal balls. His last four fights were first round knockouts for crying out loud. As for this fight, Stipe fought the perfect fight and ruined your night:)

The real issue here isn't the fighting style. It's the rule against knees to a downed opponent. Take that rule out, and Stipe easily finishes this fight.

Damn, this is a denial thread at it's best!!!! WTF, Stipe took full speed Ford Escort to his face and you still complaining!!!

Go back and watch Silva’s fights with Thales Leites, Maia, Cote, etc. Guys who got scared to engage and Silva did nothing but move and look for counters. Even the Diaz fight was a snoozer.

Stipe fought a great fight, rounds 1 and 2 had good action. He was tired as well by the 4th round, wrestling and out muscling a guy that big is not easy.

The guy has 4 or 5 first round KOs against strikers in his last fights, but goes to one decision and guys are crapping on him.

Some people get so sucked into the UFC's promotional hyperbole, they struggle grasping what happened when reality has a different result than the narrative. It's normal.
Stipe isn't a diva or a fake. He's just a down to earth bad ass. So it's difficult for him to fit the UFC's promotional mold.

So he goes to a decision against Ngannou and his KO's of Werdum, Overeem and JDS don't count anymore?

You might remember Anderson's fights with Leites, Maia and Cote? Have you rewatched any of them? If So, you've got more patience than me.

The Cote fight was a lot of fun. I don't know why people take issue with that one.

There's plenty of youtube videos of people standing there indiscriminately swinging their arms with little technique for the 4 minutes they have the gas to do that. Maybe that's more for you than the sport of MMA.

He just proved that Ngannou is a deadly monster in round 1 and possibly 2 but all that muscle fatigues thereafter and he is just basically Derrick Lewis once his tank is emptied. He did what he needed to do to beat Francis. He has no obligation to win at Ngannou's strengths.

Lol at using Anderson as a reference. When did he ever “fight to his opponents strengths”?

I didn’t see him grappling with BJJ guys, he literally was running and hiding behind referees.

When did Anderson silva fight at his opponent's strength?
This right here....

Anderson wouldnt have done that because he cant. He wouldve kept it standing and got KTFO by some lucky wild haymaker....

Fedor is one of the only fighters i have everseen walk in there and dominate opponents at their strengths.....

He GnPed Nog from Nog's guard and stood with Crocop....

Jesus Christ you are an idiot.

This post should simply say, "I can only appreciate striking." At least that way you don't reveal what an idiot you are.

  • Silva fought to his strengths, not his opponent's
  • Stipe just KO'd two "decent strikers" in a row prior to last night
  • Cain hasn't been the champ in years and also fights to his strengths
Full idiot on display...

A finish would have been nice but that was some sick game planning put into action.

Who could have ever guessed that using the clinch and wrestling would be the key to beating Francis?? Stipe was lucky to have that level of outside-the-box, mastermind coaching in his camp.

...and that choice to fight him that way would have gotten Silva knocked the fuck out.

Smart game plan. Fighting an opponent at their strength that can KO you with one punch.

You should be a MMA coach.

As much as I've criticized GSP in the past, I've always said the challenger bares the burden of keeping it standing. If Ngannou was a better wrestler and had a better gas tank, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Ngannou knew what Stipe was gonna try to do and he still couldn't stop it. That's not Stipe's fault.
