Military Roll Call! Veterans, GTFIH!

The military quit shrinking this Jan

Well, I retired in 2008. Stopped getting 'The Army Times'. I had read that Obama shrank the U.S. military and that Trump was planning to bring those numbers up.

I was looking at the latest west coast courts martial and it's good that at least not everyone is getting kicked out now just over weed or going UA. Some dude popped for cocaine and he wasn't even busted down.

Well, I read the first link and out of 4 guys only one was acquitted from 'violating a lawful general order'. The other link I did not read the embedded links. Relates to the U.S. Marine Corps. Again, I find it hard to believe the Marines would not acquit someone of using cocaine.

Junior ranking guys get second chances on drug abuse charges here and there. It's a thing, depending on overall job performance.

The window of a one fuck up military has closed... they're a little more forgiving, but I don't know if it'll return to the days when to be a good SGM you had at least one DUI on your belt.

It wouldn't shock me if more dudes have a drug second chance than a convicted DUI second chance anymore

had a USMC LT get a DUI here, he was retained...

I was like wait, what

I don't doubt it for a second. DUI is the biggest career killer where I work. Aside from the initial UCMJ Article 15 you'll get get, down the road QNP boards were rounding up guys who got DUIs 5-10 years ago and punching them out.

I don't know what is going on in our military. You can now get away with pot, cocaine, and a DUI? What the fuck!
All this 'shit' must have been brought under the 'Obama' liberal umbrella. Women in combat arms, U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Army Rangers, U.S. Special Forces. That female West Point graduate Captain who completed Ranger school now wants to be an Infantry Company Commander. Man, I'm glad I retired when I did. Let's see how Americans feel after their women start coming home with limbs missing or raped from being a POW. I already had a problem with gay men serving openly in the military.

Eh, I don't think 1 DUI has ever been a killer (it was a battalion NJP when I was in 03-07). It was basically a 3 strike policy back then. Even during the Obama years it could be like that because Baby Arm (I don't know her name but @SMEAC definitely knows who I'm talking about) wasn't kicked out unitl her 3rd DUI.
Some knucklehead out there in comm school just got busted for possessing and distributing porn. Dude got like 5 years in the brig and a DD.

Kelley Wayne or something like that...and dudes dick was impressive

for an Officer?
i've seen enlisted slide, but generally Officers can't get away w/ shit. My neighbor growing up in Officer housing got busted for banging a few others guys wifes. Dude was either a Capt or Maj and he got kicked out hahah

I had a subordinate that popped positive for barbiturates. It was during the height of Enduring Freedom and he was gonna get busted down a rank, forfeit some pay, and be on restriction.

Then he got a D.U.I.

Gone! And right after he JUST bought a new Ford Explorer.

Got it...

"Legal Services Support Team – Camp Pendleton, CA. At a special court-martial at Camp Pendleton, California, Lance Corporal A. D. Starks was convicted by a panel of officer and enlisted members of wrongfully using cocaine. The members sentenced the accused to 60 days confinement and a reprimand."

That's it? Confinement and reprimand for using cocaine? Is this a Marine Corps thing? In the U.S. Army that guy would get at a minimum an Article 15 or get thrown out. At least in my days.

I found this article interesting as you are/were a Marine. 'Marine failed drug test.' A little old - 2014.

From what I've seen...the Australians are WAY better at troop welfare than the US Marine Corps and (I assume) the US Army

I'm willing to bet that fucking improves performance
The hate keeps us warm and ready to shoot people and break their shit at all times.

How so? They have a smaller Army like Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Like comparing the health care program in Rhode Island and California.

My god, I joined the wrong branch of service. Women in the U.S. Army never looked like this. Don't know about the Marine Corps. But than again we are talking about the U.S. Air Force. 1.5 mile runs and 6 month deployments. My hat is off to this young lady for joining at a time when we still have an all volunteer military. Women seem to be so much more organized.

Plenty of SF units do 6 month (or less) deployments. Let's not pretend that regular service standards are overly difficult. You seem very bitter in your comments about the military despite your service. How many deployments did you do that were more than 6 months long operating on the front line without McDonalds/Burger King/Pizza hut or enjoying the delicacy of Mr Whippy ice cream makers at the defac....

They're called wookies for a reason.
We only did 7 month deployments in the MC but you'd redeploy a lot sooner than in the Army after a typical 12-15 monther (and they reduced it to 9 months during the surge in Afghanistan).

I got a year attached in Fallujah in 07-08 for the surge. I much prefer the first one for 7

I did a 12 in Kabul, but they had got back from a 16 month in Iraq prior to that deployment ( I was in basic and MOS school for the tail end of it)

as others said tho, the Army generally has longer dwell time between deployments

We were one of the last ones to get a 12 month deployment, all the units after us did 9. I'm assuming that's because they didn't want to pay for R&R leave any longer, as 270 days in theater is the requirement for earning it

I pulled a 15 month trip in Iraq during the surge. Definitely some good and bad times, I still remember all of the route names. Went back to the AO not long after Iraq became a thing again and a lot of the big base in Baghdad is unrecognizable.

Buddy of mine in the Minnesota guard did 22 months? I might be off a little but around that during the surge. Fuck that noise man. Said moral and motivation was so low they were relegated to guarding FOBs. Rough.

All that being said, it's not the same war or anything but I remember reading about dudes doing 3-4 years straight in Vietnam. Of course WW2, multiple years non stop fighting. I tried to remember that no matter how much I'm gone it could be much worse..
