Speaking of race random story...

funny thing happened to me on Halloween when we all went out in our respective costumes and such...
my GF and I were in line waiting to get into the Cha cha lounge...

this black guys comes up to me and says, "...hey man, you as a person of color are selling out your people by dating a white girl."

This guy was a little over weight and my size, normally I would have touched him with the jab...but I had a good buzz going on and shrugged my shoulders and said, "thanks for the input. I'll take that under advisement."

I just thought I'd share this with you guys.

Being considered white in North America usually involves integrating into the mainstream of society. It's why Irish Catholics, despite being some of the palest people in the world, weren't considered white in North America by the majority until near the end of 19th century, maybe even later. Im actually more Mexican then black but people tend to always ask what I am because I dont really look like any single race.
Some think Im white, some think Im black. Others ask if im Puerto Rican. Arabian guy asked if I was Moroccan once. Asians tend to always think Im Italian or Greek. Homeless guy asked if I was an Egyptian Sorcerer. Hot drunk chick asked if I was an Egyptian Prince.
Some ask if Im Mexican, some ask what Im mixed with. Had people ask if I was Jewish a handful of times.

So yea, I like it that way.

I've gotten everything from: Chinese, Filipino, Hawaiian, Samoan, French (not joking), Mexican, Native American, ...

Only 2 strangers in my life (in this country) have been able to correctly identify my racial background.

filipino's aren't that hard to pick out usually. Not for me anyway. Although they are a very mixed group of people. Some of them look as Chinese or Japanese as anything. As for me, people usually mistake me for mexican, especially mexicans, they don't even believe me when i tell them i don't speak spanish. Sometimes people think I'm asian and sometimes people think I'm white, I am a halfbreed so in that way, I don't go through the things that maybe dark skinned people go through. The social stuff that indians go through, i've never managed to outrun though.

you're right, you can't meet a new person before the subject comes up. It's america, we are obsessed with race and just when it looked like we were at the precipice of making some progress with a black president, it all falls apart and here the nation is turning on itself. If i had the dough i'd move into the middle of nowhere in the midwest, the human race is running me off.
