Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V6.0

That's rad as hell. Always knew about their skin channeling the water.

lol, this looks shopped. What an awesome beast.

Some of you may remember me posting about my neighbor's dog being tormented by a guy that lived on the street behind ours. Well, my neighbor started putting the dog outside again since it was too hot in the second garage during the day for him, and the kennel is in a very shady place so it wasn't too bad.

During a thunderstorm last week the bastard came out with a pistol and a homemade suppresor and shot the dog. I didn't learn about it until today. How fucked up of a human being do you have to be to do something like that?

Help me out Gabe. Did I just unintentionally kill/doom some baby birds?

So I have a hanging flower pot right next to my front door. I was watering it today and a bird flew out. I saw that there was a nest in there and I though I should get it out before it lays eggs in there. I take the nest out and low and behold there are already hatched babies in there. I say "oooohhhhhh fuuuuuccckkkk" and put the nest back where it was. Now I'm worried my scent and moving the nest has killed off the babies when the mother realizes it smells like human and has been moved.

I cant believe I never noticed the nest or even ever seen the bird in there before. I feel like crap knowing I probably just killed those birds.

edit: jesus I cant spell today :D

Has the person been arrested for animal cruelty?

The "human scent" thing is a myth: most birds have a very poor sense of smell. Here's an article for you to check out: [LINK]. Basically says once they're hatched it's much less likely they'll be abandoned.

Holy cow, I didn't know they got that big.

So fucking psyched. Had a long shitty day and was just checking on my gargoyle gecko eggs. I see this poking out!!' After 130 days of incubation

For size reference

Very cool. Are they related to the Crested Geckos? Is that their normal color or is it a morph? Is the sex determined by temperature in the egg? What's their temperament like?
Sorry for sounding like a 5 year old asking questions.

I hope something really bad happens to that piece of shit.

As far as I know the guy made bail and is home.

They let a freak that made a homemade suppressor with the express purpose of killing a neighbor's pet out on bail. I'm beyond mad.

This guy has a history of animal cruelty and I don't want him in this neighborhood with his sick history.

That gives me hope. I truly dont want to find dead little birds in that nest in a month of so. This part makes me worried though "[but] they will abandon [their offspring and their nest] in response to disturbance."

They used to be in the same genus as cresties and they can hybridize. But cresteds recently got reclassified out of the rhacodactylus genus. These both take after their mom who's a striped morph. Dad is an orange blotched reticulated, they are tsd with higher temps hatching males. I'm pretty much guaranteed these are girls because of the lower temps/long incubation.

They overall are really cool, a little more flighty then the cresteds but I love them.

And holy fuck Gaeric that's awful. I really hope they successfully prosecute him and don't let him plea down. There should be weapons charges (hopefully he had to turn them in) among the animal cruelty.

Is that Repashy the same guy that makes the gel food?

you gotta get a leachie! especially if you love gargoyles.
I knew Philipe from back in like 1996 1997. i walked up to him at the first Reptile shows here in socal. Chatted about Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos.

Then through my love of Argentinian Horned Frogs and African Bullfrogs. I contacted him when i was in north San Diego. We almost did a breeding project together. He wanted to use my big fat Ornata Female to breed with his Ornates. I ended up buying a few special hybrid frogs he did. Hes done so much for alot of Reptiles and Amphibians.

I also bought a Leucistic Spanish Ribbed Giant Newt off of him which i killed on accident during a water change. Miss that thing.!

So I saw a bird flying past my window this morning in the direction of the nest/flower pot. I decided to go check if it was the mother returning to her nest and it was!!! I perked through the flowers to be greeted by a little birdie with "a look in its eye" saying back off. I am sooooo happy I didnt doom those birds. No bs I had trouble falling asleep last night think about how there were little birds starving and crying for their mother outside. I'm freaken relieved.

So check this out. The ant nest beetle, also known as the flanged bombardier beetle.

330px-Cerapterus_pilipennis_%28Male%29.jpg

This study was just posted this month which I will provide a link to. Apparently this beetle walks into an ant colony and by using an acoustical language is able to fool the ants into thinking the beetle is the queen and is then treated like royalty. It is able to move about in the colony, eating ants at will.

It doesn't stop there though, because the workers, soldiers, and Queen all speak a different language, the beetle can speak all 3. This is like a horror story, every ants worst nightmare. This is the first time that acoustical mimicry has been observed in beetles to prey on ants.

Ants use various communication channels to regulate their social organisation. The main channel that drives almost all the ants
