Out of water they can be pretty mean, especially Sea Lions. I have seen them play with dogs in the water. We had a Male California Sea Lion Kill a dog on a dock, not too long ago.

I have had them swim around with me before, while free diving. Mostly just being curious. I did have a Harbor seal once grab my fins while diving, and nip at me. it scared the crap out of me, and I got out of the water. I'm glad it wasn't a sea lion.

Curious how yall handle animal injuries and rehab.

My dog was showing some pretty bad lameness in his rear right leg so I took him to the vet. After an x-ray the Vet thought it was bone cancer and wanted me to see a specialist. My wife and I were pretty bummed out and thought we were going to have his leg amputated at the least but the specialist was quickly able to determine he just had a torn ACL. Had the surgery done and a few weeks later and he's doing great. Still pretty much constant confinement but he is using his leg and I feel that he'll heal just fine. The first vet I went to was a place I always had bad vibes from but I'm just glad he does not have cancer.

Have yall ever done major surgeries or rehabs on your animals? The specialist offers rehab with swimming facilities and such but she was very impressed with his improvement that we should be fine doing our work at home.
 
Sorry this hear about needing surgery but that's way better than cancer. Rehab isn't a bad thing as it helps the muscles get stronger in low impact environments. Not every animal needs that and if he's doing well on his own good. It may be good for him to just to give him something different to do

I love Fox. I actually looked into getting a domesticated one, but apparently they stink and are assholes once they mature. Also really expensive.

Gabe is going to nab a tree kangaroo for me anyhow.
 
I just saw a segment on a show that airs here in Canada called Daily Planet. It's the brazilian wandering spider. Apparently when bitten, the venom will cause 4 hour erections. So scientists are trying to study it for erectile dysfunction.

 
Goats are assholes. My wife works at a gentleman's farm that has a few goats. Goats only have one game they play. I think it's called 'Hammer'. Because they'll bash you and bash you with their head. Asshole tried playing the game with me. After two rounds I punched him in the neck.

Hi Zookeeper Gabe. I used to read and visit your threads a lot and now I have returned. I tried finding it in earlier threads and didn't see it obviously talked about. What do you think about Sugar Gliders as pets? Just from doing some reading, they seem smart and loyal. They aren't smelly and don't eat/poop a lot. They can live 12-14 years and bond with a family.

Do you recommend getting 2 of them as family pets?

Nothing I refuse to work with. But there's certainly animals I don't really have a desire to work with.
Cetaceans, great apes, elephants, giraffe and most hoof stock do nothing for me. I also really don't like large parrots
 
Gabe what is the best type of medicine to get rid of fleas on a dog? Is it the expensive pills?

Things to consider when getting an animal like a sugar glider. They are nocturnal (make noises at night), most of them pee all over you during handling, can afford large enough cage, have a local vet who is knowledgable in treating them and have access to proper diets for them (not a huge deal with the internets now)

They can be rewarding pets if done right. Do tons of research before getting them and try and meet the animals before an actual purchase.

I know a few people who have been having really good luck with the serestro collar. It's expensive but it lasts 8 months and seems to work well. It has been a bad year for fleas everywhere.
 
I'm new to these threads, but I'm guessing y'all posted that vid of a python puking up a buffalo (or something) somewhere in versions 1-5?

Edit: I see that YouTube is chock full of vomming snakes these days. Forget I said anything.

How large is the Croc and how large is the python? Can that python actually survive that?

Also wtf is a gentlemens farm? Is it like a gentlemens club but with animals instead of strippers? If so, where can I find one of these farms.

Olive pythons get very large upwards of 20'. That one is probably in the 12'-15' range and freshies are actually pretty small. Only Around 5-6'.

And yes that snake isn't going to eat again for about 2-3 months.

There is a small beach in La Jolla San Diego, where you can get very close to the Sea Lions. Basically, they beach and rest themselves on the beach there. So you can get like 3 ft close to them. I threw seaweed at them one time, and they just let out a big yelp. I swam up pretty close to two of them while they were play fighting in the water.

YOu beat me to it, but I was gonna say, are the farmhands all scantily clad females who handle the animals and strip while doing so.
