Youth training (7yr old)

Different opinion on weight training for youngsters. What about cardio? Can a 7 year old benefit from cardio work? I would tend to think positively on this b/c I know personally know young kids who do nothing but play video games all day and when you get them to go out side and play ‘tag’ they are red in the face and huffing and puffing after 30 seconds!

why not just let the kiddies go outside and play on the monkeybars or scrape their knees falling off their bike or y'know...let em' do fucking kids stuff...I find it strange when people wanna turn their kids into little badasses...

Dude who said anything about trying to turn their kid into a badass? I started this thread to find out what I could do to work with my kid on the days he doesn

Conditioning work can be great for kids, running, rowing, bike riding, swimming, yes kids definitely benefit from conditioning training...... just make it as fun as possible!!!

I started this thread to find out what I could do to work with my kid on the days he doesn’t have wrestling practice. He loves wrestling and wants to get better.

There are many smarter people on this board then me, but I'd recommend maybe trying to find another gym to send him to as well as the one your at now. Lets say he's doing folk style wrestling now, find a freestyle or greco roman club as well. Or find tournaments to take him to. Where I live theres tournaments almost every weekend. Building technique is the most important thing. Also just read the S&P and conditioning forms so you yourself no how to properly lift and exercise so you can help them more when their older. This is just my opinion so take what you want from it.

Sandbag getups and burpees FTW

When I was super young, like 8-9, I used to watch Dragonball Z and attempt to emulate some of the workouts they did. Oh how bad I wanted a gravity chamber to train in.

My contribution to this thread = best

EDIT: there was an article in Time talking about how a lot of coaches nowadays push young kids to train like pros do and theyre developing bad injuries way earlier than they should be or something i.e. torn rotator cuffs. Id go get the magazine but its downstairs and the heats off and its fuckin cold in my house.

Wow man, thats a little bit personal. But let me try to back up at least some of my opinions with facts.

The term "asshole" wasn't directed at you - I was under the impression that you were talking to some random person at LA Fitness and they passed along this gem of information.

Anyhoo, I started lifting at 12 - not because my dad made me, but because I played football, and generally enjoyed moving weight. It wasn't up until a couple of years ago (see join date) that I really understood what the fuck I was doing when it came to building strength (and mass, for that matter).

Anyway, kids should do what they want to do...but on the same hand, my son isn't going to sit on his ass all day and run up the score on Call of Duty 7 (or whatever version they have out in 5 years).

This kid is 8:

His older brother, who you can see towards the end of the video, trained from a young age as well and put up 341 in the snatch and 407 in the clean and jerk at the age of 18:

And his growth has certainly not been stunted
