Haven't seen a poll that outright asks the question, so here it is.

My opinion - We've grown accustomed to refs stopping the fight at the first opportunity.

Fights shouldn't be stopped when a fighter is throwing rabbit punches from a dominant position. Lombard was giving the thumbs up.

The ref could have been stopped in the 1st round during Lombard's opening flurry, by that logic... stopping a fight when a fighter is 'in trouble' saving him from further damage.

The ref stopped the fight in the 3rd at the exact moment that I would have stopped it.

That's my opinion, what's yours?

I'll go with option C - should have stopped it in the first when Magny was getting destroyed.

Option C

I was yelling at my TV for him to stop the damn fight

I thought he was fine.

awful ref

lombard was not defending himself in any meaningful manner - he was flat out on the floor and neil just punched him whichever way he liked..

Round 2 only intelligent option. I counted over 50 strikes on the ground in that round alone. Magny blocked most of Lombard's with his hands when he was on "queer street."

I'm kind of on the fence, but only because Lombard was taking shots without defending. I'm okay with when it was stopped, but there could be an argument for it being stopped earlier. Endless undefended shots are the fighter's responsibility to mount a defense against. Even Magny was looking that the ref like "WTF are you doing?".

What? Fuck no! Magny was constantly protecting himself and actually trying to get up during most of it. (Unlike Lombard in the 2nd)

Are you Herb Dean?

Magny was moving and trying to improve position constantly (receiving damage nonetheless), Lombard was flattened, not even trying to protect his head.

The last round was unnecessary, as it was the Weidman/Rockhold round. Fighters were hurt and tired as fuck, you wouldn't let a fight start with a guy in that condition, you shouldn't let it continue either.

Option C

I would have liked it stopped in the 2nd round but I prefer the late stoppage compared to a early stoppage.

Meh. I didnt care. I mean, it shouldve been stopped but his punches weren't really hard. However hector wasnt doing shit so itwas boring to watch.

I was all about having it stopped and i thought it wasnt cuz hector is from there right? Then i remembered Neil getting fucked up in the 1st and the fight could've been stopped then. Gladly, it didnt.

So. Fair trade.

I'd suggest making a poll on which stoppage was worse, Weidman or Lombard.
I'd have to go with Weidman

"A punch is just a punch " and count how many consecutive and unanswered blows there were in round 2, and tell me how many it should be to warrant a stoppage. I thought it should have been stopped, I dunno, after 20 or so, but it went on for minutes after that. Fighters would rather die than be thought of as a coward. I hardly ever expect fighters to say that they aren't okay, even after being straight ko'd. It is the job of the corner and the ref to protect the fighter when the fighter is failing to do so. Regardless of how hurt or unhurt Lombard was, he showed inability to protect himself for far too long for the fight to continue. Someone should have saved him far sooner and let him potentially complain about an early stoppage, and tell him he needs to show more if he wants to remain in the fight, in my opinion.

Magny defended himself intelligently

Lombard laid there and got beaten on while the ref stood there and watched. If it was any WW but Magny and his pillow hands taking that many clean shots like that could have ended Hector's career and he took a ton of unecessary punishment

Then again it is Lombard so I changed my mind it should've kept going for the whole third

Shoulda stopped it during the end of the 2nd. Easy. Man was not defending himself at all let alone intelligently. Bad officiating imo.
