Your Bantamweight champion everyone

Be prepared for 1000 furious incel defenses of this guy

If you cant compete against guys your own height naturally , you should go find another sport to play
Person I disagree with = incels.

Height =/= Size. You ‘tards are arguing to remove one of the nuances that makes the sport interesting. Fighters are at the mercy of their own body types when it comes to fighting. Struve tried to make a career out of being a submissions guy when he was tall and rangey. He didn’t have the power to generate torque with his limbs.

How are you gonna shit on rainbow for not fighting Olives and JBG. Those two cut weight too. They aren't walking anywhere near 155. Even someone who didn't like to cut a lot of weight like JBG has put on some muscle.

Well there you have it ...out the horses mouth

How can these guys say this with a straight face..fully admitting he fights small people cuz he cant hang with guys his own actual size ...

This weight cutting culture has got to go some how .. there must be a solution..

This dude is walking around over the LW limit and is fighting at 135lbs..

Come on man...have some dignity or honor ...

You know the whole PICK ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN SIZE thing. ..

I know..Sherdog be like but but but they all cut weight..or if he makes the weight then its allowed .

Pfft ..do better MMA world... Weight classes should actually mean what they say ... otherwise just remove em...

So are you arguing for same day weigh-ins? With the current system I'm ok with O'Malley and your thread doesn't make much sense to me. If you are arguing for same day weigh-ins that's a different story.

TS, many have already pointed out the flaws in your argument, so I won't do it.

I will say, however, that we could pick parts of your argument and maybe think of another parameter besides weight to define classes - maybe height, or some kind of index that translates to limb length or both.
The problem is evident, though: too many classes and thin divisions, and an open door to even more differentiation between fighters.

Are some fighters naturally more genetically gifted to fight? Absolutely. But that's not to say you can't get around it - Khabib comes to mind.

Yes thats a way to solve it , as 135lbs should mean 135lbs...

Whats flawed in my argument that the 135lb title should be competed by two competitors who weigh 135lbs as the title name implies? Please explain

Height is what it is ...you cant change your height...your weight however is manageable and can be manipulated as we see a 159lbs man fighting at 135lbs... That doesnt make sense and defeats the whole purpose of weight classes..

Am i the only who thinks 155lbs or any of the divisions should mean what it is says ...thats why were created because before it use to be open weight only which means wed have Islam vs Jon Jones for the title ... Instead we made the different weight classes so more can compete and be healthier ..

Instead because of that stupid 24 hour window between weigh ins and the fight....fighters are defiling weight classes and essentially competing as LWs at 135lbs...

.its not a hard concept to follow....

Same day weigh ins like they do for many existing MA competitions as is ... BJJ, Judo, Olympic wrestling, Karate ETC... These all have Same Day weigh ins...

Which favourite fighter of yours did Islam utterly destroy to want that?

Its called fair competition and keeping the integrity in the weight classes...

Does it make sense to you that your 155lbs champion fights at 181lbs...cuz it doesn't even make sense in english as i write it?

If those guys were fighting at their walking weight, they'd be fighting jon jones and aspinall and so on.

You mean there would be Heavyweights who are actually in shape and more of them? ..

And this is a problem because?... last time i checked HW was a wasteland pretty much ..alot of 205ers could be Hws with ease... So could some Mws...

That was the point of weight classes to keep HWs from fighting MWs but it seems to be happening through manipulation

If the point of weight classes is to give a level playing field to fighters roughly the same size, then the current system is mostly pointless. The weigh ins occur 24 hours before the fight. Guys have gained 20+ lbs between weigh ins and fight night. Izzy claimed he gained 24 lbs at one point.
Yeah I’m not saying the system is perfect, but it’s the system that’s in place and I’m not a fan of all the arbitrary rules people have come up with. There’s guys who are considered too big for their division despite never missing weight. If they make the weight what more can they do? This idea that fighters should be noble and fight at a higher weight is just stupid and unrealistic in my opinion.

Is it more stupid then people removing 25 to ,30 pounds of water in a short period of time so they can fight in a division they dont actually weigh in?

Simply because nobody's said they cant?

That didn't seem like your argument at all. The way you presented it highly suggested O'Malley was in the wrong because he was a "weight bully", thus making it seem much more of a personal attack than an opinion on the misleading weight divisions.

Anyway, I guess if that works in other combat sports, maybe they could also implement it in the UFC, though I am not sure how much that would reduce the real weight difference between fighters - maybe from a maximum of around 10 lbs to 5 lbs? Logistically, though, I wonder if it works better this way and if it helps prevent the audience from seeing an obvious advantage when a slighly lighter fighter weighs in below the limit (notice this affects betting...).
There's also the chance some fighters would still try to cheat the system and we'd get more cancelled fights or fighters fighting in suboptimal conditions.

It would mean the maximum anyone could cut is 10lbs ...max... nobody is cutting more then that..if even that ...if its same day weigh in...it would drastically change the game for the better...

Fighters know their bodies, they know with same day weigh ins its not worth it...the most i ever cut for a BJJ tournament was 8 pounds and that was enough for me and i only did that cuz i registered late after my training partner pulled out and i took his spot.

That means pretty much anyone fighting at Bantamweight would be a at maximum 145 which would be rare and that person is taking a big risk...which means most will be probably right near 135-138

Thats a completely different looking division then how it is now .
