i like same day weigh ins. weigh in early morning of, later that night, showtime
Less time to recover, less time to fix it if someone doesnt make weight or gets sick trying. Probably also really unhealthy to put the body through that

wrestlers do it, i did it, you can't game the system that much if its like that. they wont kill themselves making retarded levels of weight. cutting weight is already really unhealthy the way/extremes they are doing it. same day would alleviate that 100%.

no shit. and if justin fought at his natural weight he'd be a MW and so would all the other LW.

Wrestlers arent being punched in the face. I dont think it will help.

there are head clashes, taking hands to the dome, slams, all kinds of shit, not to mention the faster pace, intensity, constantly. i think it would help, because you wouldn't be able to cut 30 pounds of water weight that way. most you could do is like 10 and still function. it aint for everyone, but if you know you know

You think Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira are "his own actual size"?

Not the same as a fight by a longshot. Getting Blasted in dehydrated brain.

Masvidal: everytime i got hit after cutting to 155 it hurt more

same day weigh ins would alleviate the extreme weight cutting though. thats the point. so you wouldn't be taking crazy shots from some beast who figured out the weight cutting game. it would be a much more even playing field. you can't do 30-40 pounds of water weight in 3 days. more even, more better, more good.

Hate the game not the player. I don't understand u cry babies crying about "weight bullying"

That's the game that is played and everyone plays within the rule set. Every combat sport athlete in every discipline does it.

The reason is obvious and known, so what's wrong with talking about the game that is played by everyone?

Islam should be fighting at 185 ...or 170 with a proper diet ..i agree
Whats the deal with Makhachev's size talk? He doesnt seem particularly big for the division, the elite are just as heavy as him, doesnt miss weight either, is this because he is Khabib's protege or something? Other guy just as big as his opponents, LW's fight above 170lbs on fight night, most walk in the 180's range.

Guys that cut huge amounts of weight do so to get an advantage. That advantage is to be bigger and possibly stronger for the weight class. There’s a reason everyone does it. That weight cut, for most, comes with a cost though, some guys power decreases from the cut, some lose some resistance to strikes and some have their stamina zapped. It’s up to the opponent to make those costs work against them, michel pereira when he fought Tristan Connelly, TJ when he fought cejudo, rumble lost to koscheck and rich clementi iir. It’s not cheating and for most the added advantages come with a price.

Sean seems to do okay in those aspects so I’d hazard a guess and say he’s not cutting a significant amount more weight than others at 135 he’s just a lanky stick guy. It is what it is. I think the fact that fighters with a wide variety of builds and physical attributes can find a style that works for them. Most ball sports have a template for each position. If you’re an NFL running back most likely you’re looking at a 6’0” 215 lb explosive athlete. MMA you have all sort of varying heights, explosive athletes, endurance athletes and everything in between, and the great fighters develop styles that best match their build and athleticism.

This is more of systemic cop out then part of the sport...

The weight class means the number it shows..

Guys are just taking advantage of the 24 hours given between weigh in and the fight..

U take that window away and O'Malley's never becomes champion at 135lbs ..

So why are we allowing this..whats the point of a 135lbs title if the guys who are wearing it are not 135lbs...

Weight classes are a lie at this point...there being defiled

No, hate greed..

Cuz thats why this exists ... Most Martial Art tournaments outside of showy prize fighting operates with same day weigh ins because it honors the weight classes..like its supposed too..

But promoters cant sell tickets to the weigh ins and to the fights if there on the same day can they? Cant also have more chances to sell merchandise and media sponsorship money making opportunities like having a weigh show...with guests and ad space to sell...

Weigh ins the day before is a commercial based idea not a sport idea..

Olympic wrestling has same day weigh ins..why because its keeps shit fair ...aint nobody cutting 20 pounds plus if they gotta compete the same day..

Its only not cheating cuz theres no written rule agaisnt it... But if your a bantamweight competitor then your supposed to be competing at 135lbs... Period..

Same for LW ,WW,EtC

My point exactly..

The weight divisions have become lies due to lack of enforcement...

Either get rid of them for open weight ...or enforce them..

Otherwise whats the point if the 155 pound title fight is being fought by a 175lbs guy and a 181lbs guy ... Its contradictory...it doesnt even make sense in english as i type it out

When did this fancy new weight cutting practice start? Sounds illegal...
