You know what bellator needs... A contender series

If they really wanna copy the ufc model they really should do a contender series. The very top of bellator divisions except hw is equally as good as the ufc for the most part in my opinion, but the lack of depth of the divisions for the second biggest mma promotion in the world is insane.
There are at least three guys that dana didn't give up contracts in this season that would be great for bellator, it really is a good way to get good level talent in the organization, bellator putting on 1-0 fighters on the biggest cards is a testament to how shallow are the overall divisions.
Julius Anglickas won on Dana White's Contender Series.

Challengers series on a channel with bigger audience on showtime. Focus on prospects, with less fights but more focus on each fighters story, small video quirky segments like pride and dream had to give each fighter a hook so people remember them.

Bellator should do their own version of ShoBox. They can do their fights at Indian casino.

lol fighters aren't going to be willing to go on a contender series to get a contract with Bellator.
They would if they signed early in their careers. Prospects making their debut or having less than 5 fights would gladly compete for a contract with a major promotion. Think of Bo Nickal, Archie Colgan, Bailey Schoenfelder, etc. very early in their careers so signing with a major promotion who will build them from the ground up while paying decent money would be pretty big.

I don't see how that would work in the contender series format though, you'd have to put them against some absolute can and make it a competition about who can smash the cans up more lol.

That’s true. We saw an amateur fight on the last Bellator undercard FFS. Like a literal amateur fight. Bellator’s prelims are full of total noobs and scrubs, it’s a real problem.

They featured an amateur fight because it was Bendo's wife. It was actually nice to see them do that for one of the fighters in their organization.

It's good to understand the context in which things happen.

I mean if you are complaining about the prelims on the last event then you are either hating or have impossible standards. There were 4 blue chip prospects fighting legitimate competition plus 3 fights with top ranked competiton fighting each other. Cherry picking the 1 amateur fight in the card is just hating.

Not in a DWCS format but in a challenger series format, like Strikeforce did. Sign them to 4-6 fight contracts to develop them and see if they pan out. That is literally how they found DC, Woodley, etc.

I’m not hating on those specific prelims, they were entertaining from what I saw. I’m speaking about what Bellator does in general, because their prelims totally suck a large portion of the time. They’re the 2nd biggest MMA promotion in North America, they should’ve have 0-0 and 0-1 fighters on their prelims, and things like that. It makes them seem like a low level regional promotion.

Yes, I agree in that point, these past prelims are not the normal Bellator prelims most are pretty garbage with 1 or 2 worthy fights. These past prelims were pretty great.

I know the context. I know that it was Bendo’s wife. It doesn’t make a difference. There’s no place for an amateur fight on a Bellator card, I’m sorry. There just isn’t. There’s amateur leagues and there’s the pros. Bellator is a professional league that acts like an amateur league too often, and that’s one of their problems.

I doubt you did but it makes a big difference. Actually, more people probably tuned into that fight than if it were just a regular prelim fight.

Doing things like that is far more interesting than what normally occurs, whether it's Bellator or UFC. You seem upset about Bellator which is fine, but you just sound bitter by complaining about something like Bendo's wife competing in an amateur fight on the first prelim fight.

Lol I sound upset? Because I’m criticizing Bellator’s business decisions?
Bellator is supposed to be trying to compete in the same space as the UFC. Having amateur fights on the card makes them look like an amateur org. I’m surprised they didn’t just have a Bra and Panties Bellator Contract On A Pole match <45>
It’s bush league, “last days of WCW” type shit that they’re doing. Is it a “nice” thing to do for Bendo? Sure. But it’s not a good business decision.

CM Punk on main card on 2 different PPVs and Nick Diaz's pothead friends on PPV looks more bush league than Bendo's wife being on the first prelim

Yes, no offense but you actually do sound upset and each time you post you just sound more silly. That fight likely had more interest than a typical prelim fight and was fine from a business standpoint. Of course your business acumen seems to suggest otherwise <45>

If you don't like the Bellator product that's fine but let's not pretend you're some wizard of business or management.

they had one, it was that monster energy series where you fought for 100 bucks at a monster truck event to win a shitty Bellator contract.

CM Punk I agree with. But UFC also isn’t scraping the bottom of the viewership barrel like Bellator. I don’t know what you mean by “Nick Diaz pothead friends.” Is whomever you’re referring to a professional fighter? Because if they are then it’s already more respectable that an amateur fight lol. UFC has other things that I think are bad business that I criticize frequently (the way they handle their interim titles, and instant rematches for example).

I watch Bellator dude. My favorite fighter is there. His whole team is there. But let’s not pretend they have a good product, because they largely do not. We’ve watched the brand steadily lose prestige in the last several years. It’s true that the amateur fight isn’t as bad as other things I’ve pointed out before, but it still shouldn’t have happened.
The fact that you’re trying to play the “u mad bro” game, and then immediately try and lob stupid little insults at me just reeks of insecurity and pettiness.
That’s neato that you think the fight got views. Maybe it did. It doesn’t matter. It hurts the image of the org overall, long term, to have amateur fights mixed in with professional fights. And Bellator’s prelims are trash enough already most of the time. It something they need to improve upon, and adding amateur fights is not an improvement.

I'm not lobbing insults. I'm pointing out you pretending to be a business legend is humorous.

"That’s neato that you think the fight got views. Maybe it did. It doesn’t matter."

Uh of course it matters. You're talking about business decisions and then claiming views don't matter. Having a fun one-off amateur fight is perfectly fine. At this point I'm pretty sure you're the only person on the planet complaining.

"But let’s not pretend they have a good product, because they largely do not."

If you weren't happy with the product last Saturday then that says more about you than anything. It was a great card.

I didn’t say anything about being a business legend. That was you, trying to be insulting because my disagreeing with a Bellator business decision ruffled your feathers for some reason.
Any miniscule, temporary uptick in views for that amateur fight is not worth hurting the brand long term, is my point. Why not bring David Arquette on and give him a match too? It’ll bring ratings.
If this truly was a one-off, then it’s not a huge deal. But they should not get in the habit of doing that, that is what I’m saying.
But obviously you must have access to these numbers, so post them—show me the significant uptick in viewers that fight brought in, and show me how they stuck around through the telecast to check out the product.
And as I’ve said already, I agree that last Saturday was a good card. Definitely better than be UFC’s offering. But that doesn’t mean that there are things that don’t deserve criticism.

Well I'm glad you're starting to calm down and be more reasonable.

Instead of David Arquette why not CM Punk? These are one-offs that happen because they will be interesting for a particular audience. I find it hard to believe you actually think Bellator is planning on making amateur fights a regular occurrence. You should know better.

I'm glad you agree the product was good. Hopefully you stick around for more cards. Fedor this Saturday will be fun.
