Yellowstone & 1883

Never saw yellowstone but from the clips and ads I have seen it looks like softcore porn for dudes in their 50s and 60s.

That there are people in this thread thinking Yellowstone is one of the best ever made shows explains how easy to fool people can be. Costner is great but the script is idiotic over the top to a point that there is no escaping that fact.

I really enjoyed 1883 but I'm maybe biased as RDR2 is my favourite game and I love Westerns in general. The 1923 follow up with Harrison Ford was also good - Yellowstone is on the list so I'll give it a go and see how I get on

I find it hard to believe Beth supposedly never knew about the "train station."
Not only Beth not knowing about the train station but the fact that she showed up there to take the blackmail photos of Jamie. So the show wants us to believe that Beth just happened to be at this random canyon on the border of Wyoming 100 miles from civilization to blackmail Jamie.

It's not until after that scene that he tells her what the train station is and she acts shocked and John has to explain it to her. How did she know where he was going and what he was going to do then?! In a show full of plotholes and flawed logic, that was the Russo moment for me. WTF.

As some others said, Yellowstone is like Sons Of Anarchy with cowboys instead of bikers. Absolutely ridiculous show.
Thats a good description. Funny enough you need the later seasons of SOA , were it was beyond ridicolous, to compare with Yellowstone. They could do a crossover show with Beth and Gemma. <Lmaoo>

There was a lot of promise in Yellowstone. Kostner fits the role to a t. Perfect cast and he is a great actor. The scenery is just breathtaking and other actors are also on point. But its Taylor Sheridan the master of cringe. I remember when we watched it and Taylor appeared as this super masculine ultra manly Cowboy. The camera always zoomed in on him wanting us to adore him with this super cheesy dialog and slowmo. It was so absurd out of place over the top that everyone laughed. Exactly like Kurt Sutter as Otto in SOA in the later seasons. Both seem to have a huge chip on their shoulder.

A show that really captures the feeling of that scenery was Longmire. Wonderful books and a good show if you are able to ignore Katee Sackhoffs inability to act.

I couldn't get through the first season of yellowstone. Cowboy/rancher politics are not my cup of tea.

Sutter at least wrote Otto as a guy who is serving life in prison, constantly attacked and used as a pawn between the sons and other gangs. He had one of the worst lives imaginable. Meanwhile, Sheridan writes himself as the ultra cool cowboy who is a beacon of success and masculinity who also always has something wise to say. It's hilarious <Lmaoo>

I never saw any Yellowstone, but enjoyed 1883 immensely. Finished 1923 season 1 as well, waiting for season 2.

Agree, Otto at the beginning was even a good character. They only went of the rails later on.

1923 and Yellowstone aren't "western" enough for me. When I watch cowboy stuff with horses and revolvers I don't want see politics, ridiculous family drama and some dude hunting in Africa. 1883 was cheesy as hell at some points but it was at least tastefully done, beautifully shot and (mostly) well acted. Sam Elliott was brilliant.

When I saw it was produced by MTV Studios ...
Well lets say I was not confident it would be a good show.
And you have 2 country singers as mom and pop.
I was skeptical too, but McGraw and Hill had a lot of good scenes - they weren't dragging the show down at all imo for a bunch of singer civilians

The Bass Reeves show was great for about 4 episodes, but then they must have been trying to save money because the last two ep were a bunch of re-cut clips from stuff we saw early in the season
