News Yan vs O'Malley UFC 280, October 22

This clearly isn't the case, you're letting all the drama around Sean cloud your judgment into thinking that Sean isn't a skilled striker. Against Chito he struggled with the leg kicks, he clearly learned from that and was checking most of Pedro's kicks and was busting him up. Like Pedro literally didn't land a punch against him while Sean had Pedro's eye busted by the first solid punch he landed.

It clearly is the case. He is a basic striker, but has some solid physical attributes like range and speed that allow him to crush tiny cans.

Again, he has been in the UFC for half a decade and is 0-1-0-1 against ranked opposition. Anyone who thinks he is an elite striker doesn't know what they're watching.

In less time than Sean has been in the UFC, Izzy has become champ and has 9 defences.

Alex Peirera is an example of what an elite striker looks like, as far as recent UFC fighters, O'Malley is not. You'll soon find out if this fight actually happens.

Nice match, I think Yan got this. I would love to see O'Malley-Holloway at featherweight.

Yan is such a horribly slow starter and it being 3 rounds it kinda scares me He should really push for 5 rounds

Yeah you're not kidding. He's a slow enough starter it wouldn't be a shock to see him outhustled by a few fighters in a 3 rounder.

That's why I love 5 rounds fights and wish all fights were 5 rounds, that's what seperates the men from the boys and shows who the actual best fighter is. I would like more rounds. I wish normal fights were 5 rounds and championship fights 7, to be more inline with boxing.

Still, I think he batters the Poodle into submission before it even reaches the 3rd.

I think O’Malley is actually underrated around here. With that said, Yan is probably the worst possible matchup for him
Looking forward to it either way

Props for taking this fight. Didn't think he would accept it. Expect more weird stuff happening in the fight though if O'Malley can't win or doesn't feel like he can win. He always looks for a way out to try and discredit the win or get a Disqualification or No Contest. There is a pattern in all his losses and fights he was going to lose.
Who do you think will win and how?

Who wins this one and how? Who are you rooting for?
What does a win here do for both?

This really didn't need its own thread

Jeeeeze O'Malley has no fucking hope here does he????

he already got that and poked the guy in the eye

Please, that guy he poked was canon fodder. Don’t even remember his name. Munoz or something like that…and the eye poke looked absolutely rubbish at that

the judges had him losing that fight, then he poked his opponent in the eye and now he's fighting the number 2 in the division. it's stupid, no matter who you slice it.

I don’t care how you cut it. We get Yan and that’s what I want to see now. Munoz fight is water under the bridge.

Who do you think will win and how?
Yan, by TKO but since it's only 3 rounds and Yan tends to start slow, it could be a decision win. But I do think after the Aljo loss, he's going to start picking up the pace in round 1 and not be a slow started anymore since that cost him his belt.

I also do expect O'Malley to do something funky to try and discredit the win, or to get a disqualification/no-contest. He has a pattern with his losses and fights he was going to lose. So Yan will have to finish him before he gets a chance to do that. Once O'Malley knows he isn't going to win he looks for a way out.

Sean has real skillz but this is clearly a huge leap in quality of competition. I think Sean will get brutally destroyed by Peter but I can see positive long term outcomes for Sean. He might finally ditch his ass kisser coach and go work with a real coach.

Sean should go with Javier Mendes or Henri Hooft
