News Yan vs O'Malley UFC 280, October 22

I think O’Malley surprises a lot of people with this matchup. I have Yan winning though.

I’ll be surprised if this happens. O’Malley may pull out with with an injury.

Actually now that I think about it... O'Malley could be betting yuge on himself.

Yan has been a slow starter in the first round or two and takes his analytical approach.. if Suga can put some nice combos on Yan early he might be able to get lucky, especially if he can land some good body shots and open up Yan's guard. But I feel like Yan probably has enough chin to withstand.

anyone know whats happening to munhoz... you know since he was ahead on the scorecards ?

title shot ?
or will he get a top 15 opponent. ?

Yan to wrestle here?

Weird matchmaking - welcome to the Chunter Scrampbell era!

Something had to happen after the (presumably) poor PPV performances - I think this is the narrative for weird fights.

So what’s the narrative gonna be when Sean beats the shit out of Yan?

This is shaping to be the card of the year.
Right. Considering ufc 277 looks like it should be a free FN card.

Is this the same card as Nate-Chimaev?
Sheeeesh.
I don't see how Nate or Sean wins.
Sean has the power and reach advantage, every other advantage goes to Yan.

Nate MIGHT have an edge in standup via volume, but for once he's fighting a guy that will out pace him. Chimaev severely lacks in head movement as we saw against Burns, so Nate could potentially box him up in rounds 4 and 5.

I don't see either Nate or Sean stopping the guys they're in there with.

If Yan gets hurt at all in this fight standing Suredawg will troll the shit out of him and his fans. If it goes to a decision, O'Malley himself will troll that he was winning the fight and his supporters here will parrot it just as much. There's no way this fight isn't lose/lose for Petr, which is why he deserves all the respect in the world - which he should already have for being as great as he is, as well as a pro fighter - for fighting this far down. It will undoubtedly change the perception of Yan for the worse around here to a degree and to casuals if he doesn't run through Sean like a hot knife through butter.

Then again, he must really want to fight and get back on a winning streak to earn another title shot sooner rather than later.

As for Sean, he's taking a very difficult fight but by doing this, he can distance himself from Munhoz while claiming he was winning and Pedro quit, since our attention span is minimal and try to up his stock here. Anything positive he does in this fight is relatively unexpected, regardless of the guys who will bump these threads if he somehow wins. Even they don't really believe that. They're just part of the I Told You So Brigade.
I give my props to both men for taking this bout, even though i'm not a big O'Malley fan I didn't see this coming from him and Yan is taking a major risk for the reasons you mentioned in your post.
I agree that Sean will most likely try to keep his distance in this bout similar to his fight against Munhoz, however I'm wondering how Yan will approach this since he likes to start slow which has some pros, but that strategy was one of the reasons for him losing the decision to Aljo.
Maybe he'll put his foot on the gas sooner since it's only a three round fight?

Also it does suck that fans can be like that sometimes after fights, especially on here. I'm just glad more is being added to this card which is looking great so far on paper.
There's also gonna be a bunch of already bumped threads on the night of UFC 280 since this card has some high-stake fights with many people debating on here to predict the winners(Aljo/TJ and Oli/Islam).
Overall it'll be a fun, but a very chaotic night for the MMA world.

If Sean pulls this off…I’m going to love this message board. People are going to be on straight suicide watch due to their weird obsession they have with this kid.

Sean has the skills, power and creativity to make this interesting for a bit…but this is just such a huge massive leap in competition that the only possible outcome I can see is Yan winning and wearing him down.

Lol holy shit is this real life??
At least O'Malley is a man of his word. Says he wants a new contract if because he's not going to fight bums and top guys for the same money then renews and fights Pedro now Yan. Gotta respect that at least. I can't imagine this goes well for O'Malley though. I can't see him winning anywhere.
