I commend the young man for putting a shot fighter out of his misery, and sparing me from having to hear BJ huggers gush on with false hope ever again. I enjoyed every blow of that shit-kicking he delivered.
 
This fight was meant to bring more eyes to Yair. That's why it was schedulled after the playoffs, and BJ is a recognized name that could bring a lot of audience to see Yair. An Yair dhow his arsenal.

He got a big spotlight fight and destroyed a big name legend.

NFL game got moved to night and did 40 mill viewers so the UFC card average is def gonna be down but the main event should do a big number.

So a few million people, some casual fans likely saw Yair destroy a name they know and looked great doing it.

Thats not a bad thing for him at all. it raises his stock.

" To the death, Georges "... Do you remember all that ? Yet, the text poll during the broadcast showed IIRC. That about 2/3, or 66% of the people that voted, thought Penn was going to beat GSP. Which meant he would have held the LW, and WW titles at the same time.

So, GSP beat the living fuck out of Penn. In doing so, he became what is/was likely the most hated fighter in UFC history...Until Ronda, and Conor slithered out from wherever they came from ( He is/was of course, one of the most loved fighters in UFC history, too ).

The first fight was 2006. The re-match in 2009.

I NEVER would have suggested, or allowed Yair to take that fight, if I had a say in it. Because no matter what he does for the rest of his career. He's a marked, and hated man. He was ranked 10th before the fight. Penn huggers already want him to fight the top 2, or 3 guys... So they can beat the fuck out of him. Yeah...That sounds reasonable.

The hate ( I hope ) for Yair, will likely be tempered by the fact that Penn is well past his prime. He didn't belong in that octagon with Yair. And some of Penn's huggers get that. And I respect them for that. Whereas GSP beat the living fuck out of THE PRODIGY...IN HIS PRIME. But, no matter what...Alot of Penn's delusional fans will hate Yair for the rest of his career.

It's a damn shame. Because it wasn't personal...It's Yair's job. And he did it very well. He doesn't deserve to be hated. At least, not for that. And he will NEVER be nearly as popular, or well liked as he likely could have been, if he hadn't fought Penn.

I've never watched Yair Rodriguez fight before. Him fighting BJ Penn made me tune in and now I'm impressed by the guy and will watch his next fight.

I think beating Penn the way he did is good for Yair's career. Penn's name still carries appeal. Longtime casuals who don't follow UFC closely will just think "That Yair guy is a monster. He throws crazy kicks." If he had beaten a tougher opponent with a smaller name hardly anybody but hardcores would take notice.
 
That was a great move by his management, fighting BJ got his name out there got him in the main event and load of publicity. I really doubt that his management or Yair give a single rats ass about BJ hugger fan base hating on him. He'll be the main or co main in the next UFC mexico trust me.

Please show me some tweets with BJ fans hating on Yair.
 
The fight was sad, Penns corner should have stopped it after the 1st, everybody watching could see what was going to happen, Old man Penn was being served up on a highlight reel platter
