Television X-MEN '97 (First Official Trailer, post #292)

This is also wrong. No characters have been changed. You would know that if you actually read any of the titles they publish. Which clearly you don’t.
And if you were a comic book fan you’d know characters do go thru changes but tend to go back to their original form after some time. This has always happened and is nothing new in comic books universes.

Have you ever read DC comics? They have many versions of the “same” character but with different genders and backgrounds. This isn’t anything new but you guys aren’t really fans of this stuff and are here to bitch and moan.
Off the top of my head I remember Thor and Iron-man were changed into women.

And your point about DC is what exactly? That's just another woke company.

They weren’t changed into women. Thor was one of marvels best titles for years and there was at one point a female thor but it all fit with the storyline that was happening. It was a great title and happened to be one of marvels best. Thor right now is the regular old male Thor.

And how could these companies be “woke” if they’ve been writing these types of storylines decades before the word “woke” even existed.

You’re not a fan of this stuff so please do us all a favor and go away.

People seem to forget during the 1980s the Xmen covered stories about colossus being a socialist, atheist from communist Russia. If I remember correctly he was a staunch atheist and he would have conversations with Kurt Wagner about it all the time. Kurt was highly religious. You literally couldn’t be labeled worse during the Reagan Era. A commie atheist FROM russia. Lol come on

Xmen taking about social issues is nothing new. Hell they were created as a allegory to the civil rights movement.

Some of you claim to be comic book fans or fans of these characters yet some of you guys have no clue about anything. Like @GearSolidMetal

At least they used to understand concepts such as subtlety and nuance... but this is Disney were talking about.

It's going to be as OBNOXIOUS as all hell.

I've actually read some comic books, but it was almost always batman.

You're saying they can't be woke because they've always been woke? You also mentioned them talking about the soviet union and atheism as evidence of them always being woke.

Woke is a term used mainly for social justice ideology, intersectionality, lgbt and all that crap. For me as a casual observer, the 90s stuff wasn't as "woke" as nowadays.

Also lol at " it fit the storyline " bit they wanted a female thor for diversity brownie points. Has nothing to do with storyline.

you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and you don’t read any of the titles. Why would I even continue wasting my time talking to you about this.

Imagine thinking Jane Foster as thor was for “brownie points,” instead of following the storyline which you clearly have never read. The same author wrote these titles for almost a decade. Jane Foster was 100% part of an overall storyline.

Let me ask this. When they switched out peter Parker for Doc Ock was that for brownie points or was it part of a larger storyline? Much like Jane fosters run at thor?

I like how you mention batman. A comic book title that is loaded with females. From Catwoman to bat woman and bat girl and Harley Quinn. Barbara Gordon in a wheelchair. “A smart woman in a wheelchair, why do they have to try so hard to be woke.”

go away

I talked about switching genders, not female characters as a problem. Plus I mainly read the elseworlds stuff or the storylines where batman was alone because I never gave a fuck about Robin and the other sideshows.

Believe what you want.

None of the characters ever switched genders.
Just stop talking already and go away.

Ah Yes the black teen ironman.

She completely fit the storyline, right?

You said switched genders. Tony Stark never switched genders to a black female character.

This is your exact quote “I talked about switching genders, not female characters as a problem.”

and currently Iron Man in the comic books is Tony Stark. The storyline you’re talking about is from 2016. In case you were wondering it’s now 2022.

So much for your theory. Now please go away

Stop being obtuse.

Aaaaand that's woke AF

You didn’t call anything. This is what the xmen have always been about.

People seem to forget during the 1980s the Xmen covered stories about colossus being a socialist, atheist from communist Russia. Imagine being a "fan" of the xmen of all things, and thinking social commentary is out of place.

The entire backdrop is an allegory for the civil rights movement ffs. I'm baffled anyone could read the comic or watch the cartoon and fail to grasp that.

Yeah, X-Men being an backdrop for the civil rights movement is well established.

But apparently every activist LOVES comparing itself to the civil rights movement.

Do you really want this X-Men '97 series to be in-your-face with activism beyond backdrops of the Civil Rights Movement?

Should the X-Men be attacking animal shelters? Factory farming? Shutting down factories polluting the environment and causing climate change?

I could go into more specific politics for ridiculous 'modern issues,' but lets set a baseline for stupidity.

This is something he does constantly. I had a disagreement with him once because he claimed today’s marvel comics are nothing but “one woke title after another.” So I asked him what he’s been reading since I have a subscription to the Marvel Unlimited app and keep myself somewhat up to date on what’s happening in the universe. To my surprise (sarcasm) he doesn’t read any titles, doesn’t have the app and was fully triggered about an article he read about 1-2 titles marvel will produce. So of course that means all of marvel is a woke dumpster fire and everything they put out is the same way. Of course he was completely wrong

Yeah he's one of those guys that calls everything woke and thinks the entire world is out to slander white men. Doesn't like minorities, but hides that behind complaints that everything is woke or anti white, because openly displaying racism is frowned on these days.

I got busy so I couldn't continue that line of discussion, StoneCold, but yeah, I haven't bought any Marvel comics for multiple reasons, but I have flipped through some at the comic book store.

1st - They increased their prices to $4 an issue. I can go see a movie for nearly that much, instead of an issue I read once and it takes me 15 minutes max.
2nd - They're not worth reading again.
3rd - The quality of art has fallen downhill dramatically, and they've purposely and obviously made female characters ugly.

Apparently Marvel lacks the talent to create new and original characters, so they get tokenized characters in as the 'New' [loved superhero]!

Oh, you don't like it? You want the old character back? Well you're racist/sexist/bigot/homophobic/islamophobic/transphobic...

...meanwhile, their most popular tokenized character, Miles Morales, sales are so horrible the best-selling recent issue is a What-If (non-canon) plot if he had become another tokenized character.

To that issue's credit, that was 19th on last month's sales chart. But every issue with a #1 has a spike in sales, look at where the other Miles Morales issues are on the chart.

https://www.comicbookrevolution.com/march-2022-single-issue-comic-book-sales-rankings/#spider-man

117. Miles Morales Spider-Man #36

Look at his sales rankings in comparison to other Spider-man titles in the same month.

5. Carnage #1
7. Amazing Spider-Man #93
9. Amazing Spider-Man #91
11. Spider-Gwen Gwenverse #1
13. Venom #6
14. Amazing Spider-Man #92
20. Venom Lethal Protector #1 (Of 5)
23. Amazing Spider-Man #92.1 Beyond
83. Amazing Spider-Man #90 (Resolicitation)
88. Devil’s Reign Spider-Man #1 (Of 3)
93. Spider-Woman #20
105. Ben Reilly Spider-Man #3 (Of 5)
110. Savage Spider-Man #2 (Of 5)

My point? Tokenized characters are not popular amongst... everybody. So don't bother playing the 'racist' card, unless you'd like to explain how you'd be cool with a white Black Panther.

BTW, have you guys read any Manga? They're really capitalizing on American comics sales completely collapsing. Look at their projected sales numbers up to 2030.

@Mike this is a good laugh. You can have at it if you’d like but I won’t even bother.

he’s “flipped thru some issues and the girls aren’t as hot now.” As he shows a picture of a female hulk. Lmfaoo.

This is all yours @Mike I won’t even waste my time debating this dunce.

Run away like you always do.

Run away.

there is nothing to run away from. I’m not about to have a debate with someone that admittedly doesn’t read any of the titles. Lol

it’s like debating game of thrones with someone who’s never watched more than 2 episodes.

It's a good start that you're admitting that you're wrong and backing out of the discussion but do you at least have a comment on the blatant woke replacement/rewriting of established characters mentioned?

Black female Iron Man
Asian Hulk
Muslim Miss Marvel
Black/Latino Spider-Man
Female Captain America

Also: female Thor, and the fact that Iceman was a complete womaniser for most of the history of the comics and a couple of years back they decided... oh yeah, now he's gay

Horrible analogy, because I read Marvel comics since I was five up until the wokeness was impossible to ignore, which was around 2013 for me.

So... you're claiming Marvel is no longer woke? Because your mockery of my point of the art being pathetic as 'girls aren’t as hot now' is more laughable at your expense because literally in the age of the Internet, Instagram, and Cosplay no one would actually be playing $4 an issue for 'hot superheroes' even if they were still hot. So if I was to fork $4 an issue over, I'd at least want them to be not hideous.

Are you saying those obviously aren't tokenized characters?
Have you looked at the sales figures for 2022 so far? How about all of 2021 and 2020?
How about the sales figures of Marvel & DC VS Manga?
