Media WWE vs. UFC; the synergy is here, this is why they merged. #TKOking

They are exactly the same when it comes to promotion and marketing for anyone that understands the game.

Pro wrestling for the longest time were afraid people would find out it’s fake, so all the promotion/marketing were built around like it was real fights.

Pro wrestling understood what it takes to make an audience want to watch a fight. UFC and Pride FC completely stole that model for MMA. This is why modern MMA is based off pro wrestling.

They are not the same in that way either.

WWE builds stars... UFC is about the brand.
WWE Scripted...UFC Unscripted
People watch WWE for the stories and personalities as much as the actual ring work. People watch MMA to see the fights. Most don't care about the drama

PrideFC was the closest to professional wrestling.. They clearly won and are the number 1 org right now.

WWE is also very much about the brand.

Also I heavily disagree that most MMA fans don’t care about the drama.

All the biggest MMA stars are built around drama.

Khabib and Conor was all about the drama that caused it to be so successful.

You ever watch an entire UFC show? It’s like 4 hours with 3 hours of drama and 1 hour of actual fighting.

Its interviews, discussions, walk-outs, commentary etc.

I, for one, am very glad that the Conor McGregor era is almost over. I hope he gets the help he so desperately needs.

Amazing how his insanely simple leg drop was 99+% effective, yet no one learned to copy or defend it.

That's one of those things that totally kills suspension of disbelief.

it’s a finishing move, each wrestler has a move that is just unstoppable. If you need to think of it as magic, think of it as magic, this is the universe where you can have a guy wear a black cloak and summon lightning, and you can’t suspended disbelief over a leg drop being effective?

Hulk Hogan hulking up is basically like Goku summoning a spirit bomb, the guy can channel other worldly powers to become invincible for 5 seconds, he can drop a deadly leg drop.

Mcgregor himself as an era is over, but his legacy of how to market and sell fights will remain forever.

He’s literally being imitated at almost every presser now.

LOL..Literally no idea what your comparison is here.. you must be in your teens.

When did this happen? I've been watching MMA since the 90s and never once heard someone say UFC was fake fighting, literally ever.

Compared to pro-wrestling? Absolutely. They fucking cater to the same demo! The majority of MMA fans' favorite aspect of fighting is all the drama that leads to the fight. Literally the majority, not the minority. I promise you that. Plenty of ties between MMA and pro-wrestling. Been that way for decades and will never change.

You probably should have told the UFC that nobody thought the UFC was fake - it would have stopped them from using 'As Real as it Gets' as its slogan for several years.

The Fertittas and Dana would have appreciated you saving them a bunch of money.

Dragon Ball Z is a really old anime, no one under 40 would be that familiar with it. But you do have to be into anime to get the reference, it is one of the most popular anime’s of all time though.

^^^^^^^This

I don't think they understand how cringe it is to talk about pro wrestling like it isn't completely ridiculous.

It's fine if you watch it as some kind of bizarre comedy, I guess.
It's still gay to me dammit !!!

WME must done their research and found out this is the majority of MMA fans want

For MMA in the UFC to be more like WWE, hence the merge

If this is what the majority of MMA fans want then this will be the future of MMA in the UFC

I don't think that this slogan made or broke their bank buddeh. It's not that big of a deal lol

I don’t care why people watch pro wrestling, I’m just explaining why I don’t want it mixed with MMA or any actual sport for that matter.
Trust me, I don't want mma or mixed martial artists stinking up pro wrestling and neither do its fans. There will be no crossover like them getting into cages with mma fighters.... they may shit up a WWE ring though at some point though.

There will always be guys acting like they're pro wrestlers. That stuff has always sold. TUF, the fake TV show helped save the company.

It's equally embarrassing if you think this was the point or if this is a shoddy attempt at deflection.

The actual point was that it obviously contradicts your point. The idea that there aren't people who can't distinguish between the UFC and WWE is silly, when this used to be a big problem for the UFC. The UFC was very aware that many people thought it was fake, so had to spend a lot of marketing resources convincing people otherwise. Of course less people now think the UFC is fake like WWE, but plenty of these people still exist.

And it also reflects the broader point that the UFC used to try to actively distance itself from pro wrestling, while now it is in bed with it. Things are very different, despite the revisionist history people in this thread are engaging in.
