WSOF 25 gets 1 night 8 man Tourney

Opps

http://combatsportslaw.com/2015/08/...ination-tournament-hits-regulatory-roadblock/

Earlier today MMAJunkie reported that the World Series of Fighting plans a one night eight man elimination tournament to be held in Seattle in November.

The problem with this? Washington State law prohibits elimination tournaments. You can access Washington State’s Law Relating to Combative Sports here.

However, we have not approved this event and you are correct that Washington State law prohibits these types of events.”.

It may be possible that the event will be held on tribal land, however, if the event is held in a venue where the State’s Department of Licencing has jurisdiction it will be off limits.

What is with the oops? WSOF 100% is going to hold this event at one of the big WA casinos which are on tribal land and hold MMA/Boxing events all the time.....

this Cage Sports Law site is literally making a story out of nothing and clearly has no idea who holds fight sports events in WA. More terrible MMA reporting as usual. I am guessing you have an affiliation with them since nobody else would have heard of this site.

Kind of lame copying Bellator but tourneys are fun. Solid group of LWs. Anything can happen. Tourneys favor finishers

Hahahaha, you are too much, dude.

As if Bellator invented the concept. Ever heard of a country called Japan? Or an event called UFC 1?

Hey brother, (yesterday) in the interview I misspoke. Seattle is where we were trying to go but found out they don't allow tournaments. We are working on other locations. The tournament is for sure happening though.

From the WSOF Exec.

Jeez. How stupid can you be. Lol.

Pride 16 man format was correct. 3 fights in one night is too much, IMO. I'll watch, however.

I hold no affiliation with the site it came up on my twitter feed, It also looks as if they are correct. You *may* want to follow them @erikmagraken

Sounds like he announced it before it was really fully set. Isn't a big deal, I'm sure they'll find a venue willing to do it. Sure it still happens.

Plenty of commissions who don't care about fighter safety. 2 vs 2 is happening some where.

They are correct in that an event in Seattle off tribal land wouldnt allow tournaments. That isnt some secret information they uncovered or anything. However 90% of all MMA events in that state of WA take place on tribal land at 1 of the 3 major casinos.

It looks as if WSOF is just run by idiots and dont understand fight sports in Washington.

Considering the Showare center in Kent is a better MMA venue than anything actually in Seattle I really have no idea what WSOF is thinking.

And no I dont think I will be following whoever that is.

100s of tribal commission will allow it no problem. There is a reason Bellator likes to run events on tribal land, no or limited drug testing as well.

Rooting for "Macaco" to win that tournament, that would be a great way the end his career, he isn't getting younger...

I'm stoked. Will definitely be going to this live. Never been to a one night tournament and there are some good names should be fun fights.

Strikeforce held one under CSAC.

Anywho, I wants to see a one-man, eight-night tourney.

Strikeforce held a 4-man 1-night tournament. Yamma did an 8-man tournament, but the fights were only 5 minutes.

Are these going to be 15 minute fights? Should be a lot of fun

Where was the Battleground O.N.E (One Night Elimination) 8 - man tourney held last year? It was in the States, correct?

They could surely have the event take place there. Plus that tourney had 3 x 5 minute rounds for each fight too.

Oklahoma but Bellator has a show there that day. But they always enjoy going up against Bellator and UFC so I don't think that'd stop them.

Also, I don't need to justify it but you can't say they aren't copying bellator when they announce this after all the positive hype of Bellator doing a one nighter. Bellator built uts brand on tourneys as well. They're riding Battlegrounds & Bellators coattails with this announcement.
