I think in general, you should just try to roll with anyone. Whether it’s whatever belt or whatever group that forms in the gym. I notice many people will stick to the same people and I think it really stunts growth. Experience range is definitely important too. I’m fair more risky and willing to experiment something new on a lower belt while trying to stay more slow/safe with a higher belt. It the gym only had a bunch of beginners or a bunch of sharks, that usually isn’t going to be good for most people to develop.
The more people you roll/wrestle with the better. People have all kinds of different styles and it helps your game to recognize that and also dive into the unknown with people. Not saying you need to wrestle or grapple every white belt out there, but you should always branch out and take in what you can from people. It's always a learning experience.
