Who is that?
Edarem

"He became a presenter for local programming in Kansas City and Phoenix, but his career ended following an arrest for sexual battery in 1986. In 2006, he began posting videos of himself to YouTube, where he achieved widespread popularity. However, probation requirements relating to his 1987 conviction stipulated that he was forbidden to own a computer, and by doing so, he was put on trial in 2010, and sentenced to five years in prison. A campaign was organized by his friends and supporters claiming that his imprisonment was unjust, but he died before being released."

By any chance you catch any of the John Danaher podcast with that guy Lex Friedman?

some really interesting stuff. Not all about BJJ. Obviously that’s what I was most interested in.

Danaher said one of the most important things for beginners is to develop your escape game before anything else. Learning escapes from bad positions is how BJJ should be taught. He claimed that bjj players would be more willing to go for subs and take chances if getting out of bad positions was like muscle memory. Something you’ve been doing since day one.

for instance. Instead of just holding the mount you go for an arm. Even if it’s reversed who cares because you can get out of any bad spot because you’ve been practicing it since day 1. Also had a psychological advantage over your opponent.

he claimed a lot of places teach escapes more frequently at higher belt levels but a lot of it should be mastered at the start.

Never thought about that but I think that’s true with the classes. I think the beginners class does focus on a lot of submissions but when those people actually get to roll, they don’t have a chance to really get that. Open mats pretty much becomes learning defense then getting comfortable enough to try to advance position (escapes), then controlling, then finally a submission attempt. Makes it really weird to think about why you’d need to drill a sub early on other than being trained to know when you should tap I guess.

Was he making the point you can be riskier with submissions if you don’t fear losing position from it?

"me" as in you were involved in a shit storm?

Or as in you need a hug? I think we're very different types of people but I'd give you an "everything is gonna be alright" hug. Can't let differences poison you. Life's too short.
Well both lol

No, it didn’t get banned. I never posted people having sex with animals, that’s him trying to smear me.

So back in 1980 something they thought to ban him from having a computer. Where home computers even common then?
