The thing is, I don't think it's necessarily "coding" for the vast majority of American conservatives. They really believe it is about "culture." It's a process of inadvertent self-deception, in my opinion. They've been thoroughly marinated in the notion that "racism" is bad, and have thoroughly convinced themselves that they are not racist, and they're just not bright enough to understand the glaring contradictions in the "cultural values" argument. Mick is a part of the minority (hehe) of conservatives that are smart enough to realize it, though.

As far as the thing with Carlson, I'm not familiar with that exchange but I think the white nationalist dude is very clearly wrong. Shocker, I know. Rhetorical agility is extremely necessary to maintain the ideological façade of conservatism and prevent it from unveiling itself as just ethnonationalism. At this point, being more frank about racial attitudes/beliefs would certainly doom the conservative movement as it has existed for the last several decades. That's not to say it would necessarily kill the political movement itself....but it would have to ideologically rebrand in some ways.

Yikes. I have Curmudgeon on ignore and have for some time, but I've gathered he's very taken with me if he's still doing the e-stalking after all this time. I may rag on Heretic a fair amount, and he may have some massive issues himself, but he's not as pathetic as that guy.

I was spending a weekend with my parents a year or two ago and mentioned that The Connors was on the TV and that it was really bad. That's literally the whole story. As far as shit posting accusations, it's not one I really mind, though. I would be happy to live with my parents, as I love them very much and living rent free there (as I do in many places here) would really help with my student loans.
