- White savior (and this one doesn't have the excuse Great Wall had wanting Damon in it)
- Manlet
- Having done kendo so long I don't care how athletic someone is but picking up sword fighting as fast as he did? Nah
- Costumes look way more Chinese/Korean than Japanese

I'm in a mood lol.
That's fair but that manlet talk... I prefer being called half people

Wage labor def not communist. Communism would be neighbors all mowing each others' collective lawns.

But I agree with SCSA that "real men" (i.e. men who don't have irrational insecurities) are willing to hire others to take care of their lawn if they, the real men, believe that their time is more valuably spent elsewhere. I don't enjoy lawn work, so If I ever owned a big lawn, I'd pay to have it mowed because my labor is more valuable elsewhere (I can transfer that time to three billed hours in my profession), I enjoy the labor more in my area of expertise, and the person I pay will probably do a better and quicker job because that's their area of labor expertise and they have invested in having superior tools and preparation than I have.

Just about maximizing value and enjoyment. In other tasks, like moving furniture, I do enjoy the task and can do it more affordably by sacrificing my work time than by hiring others.

I don’t own a lawn mower, will never own one and will never mow my own lawn. Never once in my life have I mowed my lawn in fact.

The guy who does the block has been doing so for like 25 years. I haven’t lived here that long but when I moved in I wanted him to mow my lawn too.

Sometimes the guy is mowing at 9am while people are at work. I never even think about it and it costs almost nothing for him to do the block. It’s great.

I had this conversation with several folks here before but I disagree with this label of "white savior" to this film. If anything it was Algren being saved, not doing the saving.

The Blind Side with Sandra bullock is a "white savior " movie.

Dangerous Minds , same thing.

The old timey ones are fine if you cut regularly enough to keep it pretty short. But this guy had not mowed the back in over a month, and had branches and sticks buried in the grass. So he was just walking around accomplishing nothing and hitting branches that would stop him in his tracks each time. It was actually really hilarious to watch for a minute because absolutely no progress was being made.

Im definitely getting one with a battery. The corded ones seem like a pain, and it’s so unnecessary now that the batteries last so long. I like the idea of having a set that share the same batteries but I’ve already got mismatching tools. Dewalt drill and nail gun, black and decker weed eater, worx leaf blower, etc. I need to get a system going.
Oh shit, yeah, you can’t mess with sticks and tall grass with an Armstrong powered reel mower. Even one decent sized bit of mulch will stop you in your tracks. Poor sap.

Oh so you are like @HockeyBjj then?

It still leaves this implication that the "Last Samurai" is Algren, and not the folks he fought the final battle with.

I actually read about some of the interpretation of the title...like you, I thought it was in reference to Algren. I came across an article that stated that Katsumodo was the last samurai. Let me see if I can find it

I think the thing that always got me the most grumbly was how fast he picked up the skill to use a sword. I don't care that he was military, it's impossible to get this proficient in just like 5-6 months:

This is probably my one criticism of the film.
