I the 80s it was Drakkar Noir. Then Eternity. Next was Cool Water. The problem was some groups of people decided spraying cologne was better and easier than showering. So those scents mixed with BO became known as a "Fill in the blank shower".

These days I like Dove Soap and a nice shampoo. If it is a real special night out, a small spray of Burberry gets the panties dropped. By the way, if I am across the room and can smell your cologne, you either put way too much on, or it is too strong a smell and cheap.

I've used that for a few years. I also have the Chanel Platinum Egoiste which I have used for like 15 years after my Aunt bought me a bottle for Christmas. My gf really likes that Bleu de Chanel, buts it's woody and a bit citrus in the profile. Both smell great and have generated random complements over the years.

Fougere. Barbershop scents. The opposite of fancy. Pine, plant, wood, leather.

Sauvage, Pierre Cardin, Lagerfeld, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Stetson, Boss Hugo Boss, Azzaro Pour Homme, Tuscany Per Uomo.

One of my favorite manly scents is a very cheap Giorgio Beverly Hills Red.

In my experience I have found that the high end and niche frags just aren't worth the price
Some of them smell great but under perform no longevity and weak sillage after 2-3 hours not paying 3 bills for a cologne that won't last all day

Having said that there are some that I find might be worth buying a bottle of and for me those are Creed Aventus and Creed Absolu Aventus I own both
