I think if you asked people what the most memorable scenes from Goodfellas and Casino are that Pacino's death in both would be at or near the top of the list.

And whether or not they have a demonizing effect I don't think they make people more likely to join organized crime lol. Do you think there is some sort of correlation between when Scorsese releases a movie and organized crime?
Did I say that? How many people think of a sociopathic low life junkie (without all the cool jokes and the bling bling) when thinking about a mobster vs how they're depicted in movies? I never said anything about joining the mob. Just their image.

Alright, I guess I'm not sure what you were getting at in that case.

That looks like the serial number for a CR6920. Congrats! You got a good gun at a fair deal

Cool I'm glad I didn't get taken for a ride.

I wasn't even expecting any to be in stock and didn't think I'd be getting one today at all. The trip to top gun I thought was gonna just be to get on a waiting list or figure out what I gotta do to buy one

Can't stand these movies. Just a giant wankfest to the mob. I've seen what organized crime can do in real life not only here in Chicago but also in NY where my parents and their families are from. For all the shit Scorsese spouts about marvel movies, its ironic considering that he's been repackaging the same shit for over 30 years.
They also always get more handsome looking actors than the actual characters. “Yeah I’ll let you tell my story but only if Johnn Depp plays me.”

I'm just looking at it realistically. Mob movies by and large have given the mafia a cooler image. The deterring or demonizing factor or however you want to call it is not that relevant to most people.

Is there any observable evidence that they are perceived as "cooler," though?

The cult of popularity for criminals in 2021 is nowhere near what it was during the outlaw era of the 19th and 20th centuries with John Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Jesse James, etc. and the power of organized crime in the United States is at an all-time low. Even if it made them seem cooler, there is no evidence that it increased sympathy or admiration for them.

The closest thing to "cool" depictions of violent criminals that come to mind - Anton Chigurh in No County, Omar Little in The Wire, Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad - aren't even mafia related.

I really did not enjoy The Sopranos and didn't think it was all that good, but I think it did a good job of depicting mafia members as the shallow, dim-witted scumbags that they are. With the exception of the main character (who I find scummy, but others find charismatic)....which is problematic. Chris from The Sopranos may be the most contemptible protagonist character I've ever seen.

A few cases can be made here and there, but it's mostly the audience who makes that false interpretation. It's like people who lionize and idolize Tony Montana, and don't realize that the movie is a cautionary tale, and not one that is meant to paint Tony Montana as someone to be adored.

I dunno he came from nothing and got a really big mansion

Cr 053492 is stamped on the gun... the box didn't come home cuz the hardcase and they said they'd be glad to keep my box for shipping

No box means $50 less on resale value. :D

You can go to gun.deals and do a search for colt cr6920 to get a sense of what they're going for. All the listings with significantly lower prices will likely be out of stock.

Come to think of it, my view of you is sorta tarnished that you're able to pass the background check. Thought you were a wild-man. :(

@tonni @PolishHeadlock2 Can anyone guess the most prolific snitch in film and television history?
