Well if workers rights are rolling back despite there being unions, wouldn’t that mean that the unions are failing?
But the rolling back of worker rights has effected everyone, not just unions. Broadly, working class Americans across the board have been getting burned for a long time. It's true that we've rolled back or changed laws that used to support collective bargaining, but it seems oddly disingenuous to blame that on unions themselves lol

I always viewed you as center left
Yeah I dunno, I’m pretty solidly left. In a lot of ways I’m a product of when I became an adult, sort of a Clinton-era liberal. But Clinton was too conservative for me on a few issues. But I’m definitely not as far left as some.

I’m not blaming the unions just asking if you think they are effectual

It's anecdotal of course, but mine is extremely effective. I've also had experience with one that was significantly less good.

Makes sense. I’m in favor of the idea of unions but believe that the vast majority of them are now just in place to obstruct progress and are led by self serving shitbags.

I think unions, like anything, are (or at least can be) a reflection of the people who populate it. And that relationship is colored by both the union and non union/administrative/management folks. My negative experiences were part of an entire work culture, top to bottom, that was just foul. But currently it's a completely different situation. I can say though that I know and trust the people who bargain for me, and I even work with some of them. Everyone involved has an actual stake is creating and maintaining a good relationship with administration (and vice versa).

Makes sense.

I just distrust anyone in power with anything and have seen unions in NJ(teachers) do some overtly negative things just to save their asses. At a certain point, they negate benefits for everyone for their own sake.

Dockworkers being an obvious example.

I was part of a teacher's union that was essentially in bed with administration -the very people they should have been bargaining against-, and it super duper sucked. The nastiest kind of nepotism ran rampant and there wasn't anything anyone could do about it.

That’s the worst. Sorry you had to deal with that. I think about the dockworkers a lot. They negotiated against any automation at all — which meant they couldn’t even have a badge system at the gate. Wild.

since this is basically incomprehensible, I figured taking it to the lounge would be a good idea
I’m just messing around. Last week you said my claims of AI taking jobs was not true and now these people are saying AI will take jobs.
