@Unknown Pleasures

Montreal 'Marlboro Trunks' Dooran might just represent the ultimate peak in what was arguably the greatest single win in boxing history. The Palomino and DeJesus IiI performances were fucking sick too. And with that, I must update my current fave list.

01. Roberto Duran
02. Pernell Whitaker
03. Ray Robinson
04. Mike McCallum
05. Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.

Nice mention of the Body Snatcher. He gets criminally overlooked. Don't think he's still around but Liu used to train at Johnny Tocco's with him in Vegas

Yeah, I guess. Sometimes I say the F-word around him and get the most disappointed and saddest look you can imagine, his eyes get all moist like he's about to cry.

He's definitely one of the greatest technicians of all-time: immense ring intelligence and poise, an excellent jab, phenomenal offensive variation and accurate punching, renowned body puncher, rarely ever squared up and utilized consistent head-and-upper body movement at range that allowed him to both evade shots and create openings for counters; educated and economical footwork to cover up his one real athletic shortcoming of slower feet. Not to mention he was packing a certified Cast Iron Chin; never stopped in 55 fights from 154 to 175. The bombs he withstood from Julian Jackson were insane; he would've beaten Hearns IMO.

1) I don't like that kind of talk. Stop it. It upsets me.
2) It was more of a hopeful request rather than passing judgement. The irony is I typed that post while eating Swedish fish.
When ever someone says/posts I don’t like that kinda of talk I think of Olivia Soprano saying to Junior when she basically ordered a hit on her son...

Oftentimes the truth hurts. That's how one separates the wheat from the chaff.

Its top 5 least favorite words. Ironically as we're having this convo im on Broadway as I passed through boystown.

There are a few great Heavies posters like @BFoe, @Hellowhosthat and @Ironnik94 that occasionally pop in here.
Hey, thanks for the kind words. Both the Heavies and the WR can be cesspools, but there are some good posters in each. I’ll try and drop in the WR more.
@BFoe is my WR homie. Just ask him.

True that, we’ve had some good chats and spirited debates. I saw you posted “They Walked In Line” earlier, you a Joy Division fan? I fuckkng love Joy Division, and New Order too for that matter.
I’ve posted a tiny bit in the WR lately, I’ll try and get here more. But the whole lead up and aftermath of the election was so exhausting, it’s nice to take a break. Plus there’s good fights coming up, so I tend to hang in the Heavies.
That’s actually why some our debates fizzled out—once we got to the weekend, I go into Fight Fan Mode and do a shitty job of replying and keeping the debate going.
Agree about the OT though. There are a few good posters there, but mostly its existence is a waste of everyone’s time.

Honestly one of the best breakdowns of McCallum I have ever heard. I'm extremely impressed. Barely anyone could take a clean shot from the Hawk (Jackson's KO of Herrol Graham remains one of my favorites) but as you said McCallum did.. I think he would have beaten Hearns too. Probably in about 8 or 9.

I'm out of likes so I owe you one. Why don't you post in the boxing forum out of curiosity? Lot's ofknowledgeable people in there and you definitely are a student of the game

Hi friend!!!

Fuckin' A. Great band. Dead too soon.

No worries, bro. Energy comes and goes. And we both know our 2A discussions require it. :D
