Would you totally remove social media or improve it somehow?

Remove all "likes", and the current reward mechanisms for posts.

You've got teenage girls posting selfies refreshing their phone every 2 mins to see if anyone liked their duck face, so that they can get a dopamine rush when they see someone hit "like".
Yeah, definitely get rid of the retarded social media "like" crap... hint, hint sherdog

And perhaps one the better answers to this thread is that social media can be improved by making most comments temporary rather than permanent.

+1 to this.

But I don't think an imposed lifetime for online comments is the answer. IP for ones posted comments should belong to the poster - including permanence if they so choose, although that would be difficult to enforce in practice. Perhaps the more practical solution would be to adopt a "statute of limitations" for online comments, such that they can not be held against a poster wrt employment, school admittance, etc. if they were made more than [10] years prior.

Haha, I can remember new members scoffing at my posts to like ratio not knowing that the like function started about 10 years after I joined.
The feature was stupid back then and it's still stupid now. Anyone who honestly cares about their internet points score, really needs to get a life.

...the "likepocalypse" and subsequent meltdowns were utterly hilarious though <lol>

Has there been an update I'm not aware of? The last I saw was over a decade ago.

Send it back to MySpace circa 2005ish, then decree globally that the entire might of the United States military will be used against anyone that tries to develop it beyond that point.

The only update to that stuff that i know of is moving from the old system of just straight likes to the even more ridiculous reactions thing they have going now.

I assume it's modelled on some other social media crap.

The only social media account I have is LinkedIn but all I do is keep my profile up to date in case I need to find another job.

I wouldn't get rid of social media but I wouldn't give a shit if it disappeared either. It would be hilarious to see millions of obsessed people spiral into depression without it.

If it was possible to change it so you could only message and post comments with people you have met in real life and exchanged numbers with, that would make it better. It would also be a lot less popular, it would be more social though.

Have select humans with impeccable top tier character and intellect be the gatekeepers and disallow people from posting bullshit or terrorist recruitment shit, or have AI do it. I'm not talking removing after the fact, but basically act like a newspaper editor who reads it before deciding if it goes online.

Why isnt there a "I would leave it just the way it is" option?

I love social media, it works great to keep in contact with a large group of family, friends and old acquaintances that I would've lost contact with decades ago if not for Facebook

I also use it meet new friends with similar interests like pitbulls, Michigan Wolverines football and pro rasslin

Its also a fantastic resource to find out about upcoming events in my area that i may be interested in, things such as concerts, sporting events, festivals, fairs, farmers markets, church gatherings, etc.

Its also a solid news source if you use it correctly

It works awesome for me, if you have trouble with it then its probably cause you seek out the bullshit and purposely try to wallow in the misery just to complain about it and making changes to social media isnt gonna fix your stupidity

I just read your post, well said and I added your option.

I'd keep it but enable free speech for all. No restrictions. It's absurb how your private and work life is merging into one corporate control structure even while off the clock.

I don’t know. I don’t do any of that shit. Honestly, I don’t understand why people spend so much time on Facebook or whatever.

I do watch a lot of YouTube. But that’s because I can’t watch tv while at work.
