Werdum beat Cain Velasquez with jiu jitsu. Cain was an ncaa champion level wrestler.

Frank Mir beat Brock lesnar with jiu jitsu...ncaa champion level wrestler.

Werdum beat Fedor who was a Sambo champion with jiu jitsu.

Nogueira beat Mark Coleman and Dan Henderson with jiu jitsu. Both guys were at very high levels of wrestling. He used jiu jitsu to sweep Randy couture in their fight in which he ended up winning.

Hell, Matt Hughes used jiu jitsu to beat royce gracie.

Jiu jitsu is the best form of combat for the smaller , less athletic fighter to stand a chance against the superior athlete or bigger and stronger person. I'm still waiting for you to give me an example of another discipline that can say that. Wrestling and boxing and kickboxing are all awesome as well, but you are not a complete fighter these days without those things.

Btw I have nothing against sakuraba. He is one of my favorites of all time. He helped show the world how to defeat the Gracies back when nobody else had really done it in decades (aside from ken shamrock in the 2nd fight with royce) but to say Saku somehow discredited jiu jitsu is fuckin stupid. All you have to do is look at the current roster...EVERYONE in the ufc knows jiu jitsu at a high level because it is absolutely necessary to know. If you refuse to believe that, then I guarantee you don't know how to fight. Period.

Kosan Judo had been practicing high level NeWaza in parallel with BJJ except they didn't trash the great standup throws for pathetic looking old farts falling over takedowns BJJ did...

It brings a narrow scope of realism that's hard to find safely in other arts. But as I said it's got as many limitations as any other authentic art because u still have to get the guy 2 the ground which Sak refused to get sucked into.

I'm aware of the judo roots of bjj. Judo is great but the Gracies adapted it into something even better.

Here is another correction for you. As I written before, Rockson died 3.5 years after Saku beat Royce. All this time there were talks and attempts to make a fight between Saku and Rickson, which obviously failed. Rockson's death cannot explain why Rickson never fought Saku.

Well there was a reason why they never fought and it was not Sakuraba and like annother poster pointed out the death of Ricksons son.

So make of that what you want. Rickson was more busy securing his legacy with bullshido records than to enter a fight as soon as mma got more complete.

Rickson never fought against the newer guys and he knew very well why. Gracies made bank with his "best of all bjj in a secret dragon lair" stories.

Sakuraba would smoke him like many other mma fighters of that time. Yuki Kondo would have kicked his ass. The whole Rickson godlike story in MMA would have exploded into nothing if he would have faced legit opponents like Saku. Royce and especially Renzo are the better MMA fighters in the gracie family if you dont count fairy tales.
