Worst fall from the top?

ferguson
BJ
gray maynard

no one mentioning maynard right away, surprised. that to me was the strangest one, from world beater knocking edgar silly in title fights to looking like he'd never tried mma before, in the space of like a fight or two. never heard much in the way of explanation either, from anyone.

Guys, Jones is an ass, but just cause he’s ducking Aspinall doesn’t mean he’s taken some wild fall from the top.

Fall from the top is like McGregor shit, BJ, Barao etc
BJ and McGregor really have to be in any opening post on this topic.

Before the losses that contributed heavily to or began their terrible win/loss streaks, the three mentioned by the OP were as follows:

Moraes 22-5-1 at ~ 31 y/o
Barao 32-1-0-1 at ~ 26/27 y/o
Garbrandt 11-0 also ~ 27 y/o

Didn’t Double Check The Ages as I was looking this up so…

Based on how easily Garbrandt was running through opposition especially how easily he tooled and likely Nate Diaz clowned instead of finishing Cruz (based on the “stats” above,) I’m going Cody.

The other two guys could’ve retired on the losses that essentially kicked off their streaks, and would’ve been considered to have had full/great careers.

Cody was supposed to recover and stick around the top 10 (via solid wins; not only .500 talent or blown up FLW) improve, and come back in a few years to challenge again instead of being a betting favorite to get stopped anytime he faces solid competition when his opponents are at their ideal weight class.

Barao's fall is pretty unmatched. He was genuinely being considered a GOAT based on his record, and his losing streak went on for a while. I do give him some points, in that he snuck a few wins in there and put in a competitive performance or two. It's not like Woodley, who had 4 straight performances straight from the title where it looked like he gave up entirely, but at least he stopped everything at 4, and not dragged out his x plummet over 5 years like Barao

Tony by far:
12 straight wins, 9 by stoppage, 3 over former UFC/Strikeforce champions.
to
8 straight losses including journeymen Bobby Green and Michael Chiesa.

I wonder if Hendricks fall had a lot to do with the structure he was brought up in when Team Takedown took-over and funded him, and I believe four other champion wrestlers to build a stable

The plan was to get the highest caliber wrestlers you can find, give them a place to train with world-class coaching, and provide them a salary so that they could strictly focus on learning the sport and winning

Team Takedown wanted to build a UFC champion and took all the earnings in return for this “paid-for” lifestyle

The management figured if they poured all this funding, at least one would become champion, and the earning will pay them back

I know lots of stuff about the deal as I faced one of Team Takedown’s wrestlers myself and looked into the whole deal way back in 2007. I remember the flashy hummer pulling up to the event and Guy Mezger getting out with my opponent. It was my 2nd pro fight and I was co-main against a D-1 stud on his turf LoL

Mezger didn’t know who I was and studied my entire warm-up routine prior to the bout, I had to remain calm LoL

Fedor went from the goat to getting ko'd by a true 185lber and then ko'd three times by two fighters from TUF.

More babies bringing up Jones ….wanted to see him lose awful bad , not healthy lol
