I got the impression that Wonderboy essentially understands that he's not going to be champion; and just wants fun fights.

Considering the fact that Shavkat has everything to challenge for a title in the not too distant future, and Thompson is a "face" that likes to put on entertaining stand up fights, this seems like it'd be a pointless matchup.

Considering the fact that Shavkat has everything to challenge for a title in the not too distant future, and Thompson is a "face" that likes to put on entertaining stand up fights, this seems like it'd be a pointless matchup.

I don't think it would be completely pointless. Wonderboy would be a clear step up in competition for Shavkat (we all saw what Wonderboy did to Geoff Neal). It would be a really good test for him, and also likely a super entertaining fight to get Shavkat some visibility and momentum towards the title shot. It definitely wouldn't be a walk in the park for Shavkat.

Him and Burns are teammates so thats not happening, most likely fight next for Shavkat is Colby (Which ill be legimately shocked if Colby actually takes that) or Belal.

I mean (and again, this is if I understand their individual motivation correctly) that there are better fights for the title picture (Shavkat) and entertainment value (Thompson) to make than pitting the two against each other.

I'm arguing that the UFC would go be better served pitting Thomson against a Michel Pereira type while giving Shavkat a shot at another high ranked contender who has a realistic chance of challenging for the title.
