Wonderboy is a promoter's worst nightmare.

I haven't missed a card in quite some time lets just say i am happy it was a card headlined by Stephen Wonder Bread Thompson.
 
Has Wonderboy ever gotten blanketed tho? I remember Woodley had to rock him on the feet first, but that was a different matchup. Both were counter punchers. The only way to beat Stephen at striking is making him lead, but its very boring.

The only fighters who could fuck with him in the stand up are in different weight classes. Styles like cory, tj, cody, izzy, volk, fiziev, max, even conor would pose interesting challenges... But they're not in the 170 division. How do you book this motherfucker? He'll tool jorge. I'd pick him over colby and everyone else, except usman and Leon. What's next for wonderboy?

Bruh, he's in a weird weird position. He fucks everyone else up in that division but leon and usman, imo. He's not an asset. He's a liability. If i was the president of the ufc, pre-covid, i wouldn't even sweat it. The best should fight the best. If you can't beat Thompson, that's your own problem. But since these fools are into WWE shit, building stars and what, it's spooky when that guy's around. He's not assuncao or leon who neutralise you. This guy makes people look foolish. It ruins hype.
 
reality is wb is not easy to takedown. its not easy to get close to him and he has good clinch scrambles... his footwork is amazing and you need to risk eating 3 shots going in. he doesn't possess that one punch power but his got sniper like punches that when you get hit in the right place it changes your game plan...

Weird promoter that has nightmares about having exciting and unique fighters signed to their promotion.

Maybe if its not a fight promoter? Even then, Wonderboy seems nice and social. Probably wouldnt be a nightmare

Think about it. How do you book him? Who does he fight? Who's an interesting matchup for him aparr from colby? He's a sport killer.
 
I agree. The last fight of 2020 and I turned it off after round one. And I was st work doing nothing else.

No "it" factor. Not sellable. Boring.

Hence why Chimaev and the UFC chose to not book chimaev vs wonderboy. Even if you win, he doesn't make you look good in a win. He's a tricky match up.

my stream was cutting in and out around round 2. So i cut it off and went to bed. I figured wonderboy was going to give him troubles before the match due to his karate stance and angles of attack and it ended up being true. Boring fight. Butthat's WB for you. Great fighter, but hard to look good against in a win or loss most of the time.
 
Styles don't matter. You book him where he is deserving and that is top 5. Just like someone else needs to prepare for his style, he needs to prepare for someone else's. We are here to find out who the best fighter is, not who sells more. At least we should strive for that. It ain't his fault he is hard to prepare for. It's not like he doesn't need to prepare for guys like Usman and Colby.
 
Ufc and us all are lucky to have him
