Wonderboy is a promoter's worst nightmare.

It's not hard to make an argument for WB being the favorite against anybody in the top five right now. The only thing that kept him tentative against Woodley was that nuclear power, and nobody else at the top has that. While I would favor usman, I could see him getting badly pieced up trying to close distance. Colby even more so.

Give him grapplers

Colby. Gilbert. Khamzat. Chiesa
Jesus, do you hate Chiesa or something? Lol. Seen literally nothing out of him that makes me think he'd stand a chance. You seem to be seriously sleeping on WB's movement and TDD. He's never been held down for any length of time that I can recall.

  1. Probably loses to usman.
  2. Beats every other contender... Except maybe leon?
  3. Doing too well to randomly cut.
  4. Cannibalizes contenders.
  5. How do you book wonderboy? Unless his opponents has the ability to take and hold him down, he's nearly impossible to beat. The only fighters who could fuck with him in the stand up are in different weight classes. Styles like cory, tj, cody, izzy, volk, fiziev, max, even conor would pose interesting challenges... But they're not in the 170 division. How do you book this motherfucker? He'll tool jorge. I'd pick him over colby and everyone else, except usman and Leon. What's next for wonderboy?
Anyone can get randomly cut. Wonderboy isn't special.

Clean cut, good-looking, tall, in shape, all around good guy.
I don't think UFC sees this guy as a problem.

He puts on classic karate and has a kind soul. Nothing wrong with that

I didn’t day WB he was gonna lose just book him and let WB style on him

You can tell who the promoter's worst nightmare is by how quickly they cut them.

Dana hates wrestleheavy guys the most, so his ultimate nightmare would be a non-english speaking ground and smother guy like Jared Rosholt. Or like a Portguese-speaking Jon Fitch.

I'd pick him over Leon as well. As pointed out in the fight tonight Wonderboy has the 3rd best TDD in the division and the gas tank to go with it. Leon's standup while proficient carries almost zero risk to Wonderboy.

Usman would be a very tough one to call.

It also can't be stressed enough that what Dana likes and what he thinks other people like are not at all correlated to reality.

Dana goes from his stand-up boxercise background and has no grappling experience whatsoever. So his worldview is always stand-and-bang. That's why a guy like WB is his dream.

Nothing wrong with letting a guy clean houss as the 2nd best fighter in a division especially when they are popular and have a fanbase. Fitch did it for years. Just dont match him up against #1 contenders

Also, are you not aware he just had a 2 fight skid? It's not like it's a given he will smoke every single guy other than the champ

Yeah but he's bad for business. That's the main problem. Neal winning would he the advent of a new contender. What do you do now with Thompson? He probably won't be champ. What's the point of having a contender exterminator, who can't beat the champ? Who do you book him against? Do you start protecting prospects from him? Wtf lol.

Objectively I do understand what you're saying, but Masvidal is a pretty prime example that losing to WB doesn't derail you. WB also absolutely CAN be knocked out (and has), so you could also make the case that WB is just a stand and bang gatekeeper that gives you every opportunity to try and look great on your way to #1 contender. If you can't beat him, then that's on you and not him.

But I hear you

Don't think anyone could call Wonderboy's style stand and bang tbh.

Well... Romero was similar and he got cut. I say keep them. If they're top 10 or better yet, top 5, they should be in the UFC, derailers or not.
