Yeah seriously. That dude Doran was level-headed as hell. That first scene between him and Ellaria is probably one of the few scenes in Dorne 5th season that I like. He comes at her with some truth. Oberyn was killed but he was killed after entering a trial by combat of his own volition. She says, your brother was murdered and he replies, "He died in a Trial by Combat by law that is not murder."

His biggest mistake was that he trusted that snake in the grass when she kissed the hand and said she wouldn't pull any more shenanigans.

It's weird that Oberyn was a true g but they portrayed his lover and kids as violence mongers without nuance.

Really though I would argue the main theme of the show(or at least how it differed from other shows) was playing up that people suffering tragedy often made them less rather than more moral.

Not the main villain in the film, but certainly a memorable character and Janssen really put herself on the map with the role.

This was my first thought too, and I know she's not the main villain. She was just sexy in her ruthlessness. Also, that mute knife girl in Die Hard 3. Loved that character.

I LOOOOOOOOVE female villains. Nearly all the characters I write are female villains or female anti-heroes just because they're so awesome and we don't have enough of them. Some of my favorites:

1. Azula (and friends) from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Completely unhinged, but unmistakably human. Kind of a shame we never got much of a backstory for her, but perhaps it wasn't needed. Based on her family situation and the values she was raised to uphold, it makes sense she'd end up like this.

2. Kuvira from The Legend of Korra

Korra in general was a let down compared to The Last Airbender, was Kuvira was a cool villain. She was pretty much a fascist, but you could always understand where she was coming from, even if you disagreed with her methods.

Amazing post. I don't know the other two in the list, but super great calls, and dissections, of these two characters. I was even rooting for Kuvira at some points. And her mole reminds me of Ronda. (Speaking of which, putting that mole is a great touch on her character design; it makes her just feel more real as a character.)

I think the only reason that I didn’t hate her more is that it’s clear from the second you meet her that there are numerous red flags and she’s batshit crazy. Sam knew what he was getting into.
