WNBA 2K24: The Caitlin Era Begins

Is Caitlin Clark the reason you are watching the WNBA?

Yeah, it's almost impossible to compare Swoopes to Clark. Just too many things were different.

1. Brand new league with a shallow American-only talent pool -vs- mature league with a global talent pool
2. Swoopes barely played as a 26 year old rookie, whereas Clark is going to get MVP votes as a 22 year old rookie
3. Swoopes spent the early part of her career playing next to two Hall of Famers, including the best player in the league. She wasn't even the #1 option on her own team until her fourth year in the league when she was just shy of 30 years old.

Clark is going to own several WNBA career records before she is the same age Swoopes was as a rookie. Ironic, given that one of Swoopes disses on Clark was that she was a '25 year old playing against 18 year olds in college'.

Good to see my girl Clank be recognized for a great season. What a ride. She'll be leading my Fever to the chip in a few weeks in spite of all the doubters and bandwagon jumpers.

Looking forward to my Sky having everyone healthy next season. The Sky without GOATgel are complete lol.

There are haters but then there are HATERS. Swopes is willing to die on this hill.

I don't think it's 'hate' so much as it is Swoopes having a completely retarded definition of dominant. In the same interview, she said she thinks a player can win MVP and not be dominant, and included her own MVP seasons as 'non-dominant'. That's just dumb. Making the threshold for dominant so high that nobody in the league can reach it makes it a worthless descriptor.

Unanimous Rookie of the Year to Caitlin.

You mean that one bitch who supposedly suffered all this racism at the hands of the press that averaged 13.5 points on 41% shooting by rebounding her own misses over and over didn't get a vote?

This is literally embarrassing. Are they really that upset over a mid-west corn girl playing basketball?

Its pretty crazy how many things she has already done. Here is a link to some of her records she already set. She's a female Luka, offensive machine that is criticized on defense. Even their dribble sets and shot selections look similar.

Gil is also ridiculous. Dude will spit out a hot take with a straight face then hit you with incredulous face if you don't agree with his hot take.

The Reese hype is going to be especially embarrassing in a few years when Paige Bueckers, JuJu Watkins and other college stars zoom past her in terms of production. Like Andre Drummond, there is nothing special about her game other than her outstanding rebounding. At least guys like Dennis Rodman (defensive versatility), Hassan Whiteside (rim protection) and DeAndre Jordan (rim protection) brought another elite skill to pair with their fantastic rebounding. Reese doesn't have any other standout skills. She's shown some signs of being an above-average all-around defender, and perhaps she can build up her fundamentals on offense to a competent level given enough time, but that is her ceiling. And her floor is Whiteside without the shot-blocking.

Progress. My girl Juju will be running the league regardless.

Sheryl Swoopes was literally downplaying her own career saying even her MVP season where she also won DPOY was not "dominant." Just because she doesn't want to admit she was wrong on Caitlin Clark.

Saying that, this Caitlin Clark culture war has gotten retarded and way overblown. There are clickbaity Youtube clips complaining every single day about this shit.

It's only Swoopes and a few others that did the actual hating. Yet all these white people getting all butthurt about a hard foul in a game.

A lot of the hard fouls is just veterans doing the same exact thing they do in every other single sport. Hazing hotshot rookies.

Yeah, I'm over the Caitlin Clark clickbait outrage echo chamber. In the media, it was just a handful of hateful voices in a sea of supportive press. On the court, it was just a combination of jealousy and a retarded WNBA culture of veterans trying to smash rookies to pieces. Caitlin got it worst than most, but all rookies got their fair share of physical hazing from veterans who were terrified of losing their jobs and positions in the WNBA hierarchy. The whole league had a late 80s NBA thug ball culture. Hopefully, the bad publicity around Clark getting mauled will cause the league to crack down on that shit like the NBA did in the 90s, and future rookies like Paige and JuJu won't have to deal with that crap.
