Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Yesterday's card really drove home something that's really been frustrating me for a while in WMMA - fighters will do like 90% of the work to get out of a bad position, and when they're almost out they'll either get stalled out because they don't know how to do the last little bit or just plain give up and get stuck again. And then they have to do the whole escape sequence from the start only to get stuck again at the last part. For example, someone getting clinched on the fence will fight hard to defend takedowns and get underhooks in and all she has left to do is step around and spin off the fence, but instead she just keeps hugging on the fence and gets leaned on for the rest of the round. The hard work was done but they just don't get over the last little hump, some needed more skills, others just a bit more effort.

I'm just depressed from the title fight, it made me dumberer since it was a perfect example of the above plus a healthy dose of poor fight IQ. I'd probably have a drinking habit if we didn't have legal cannabis up here.

You should put trigger warnings to horror stories like this!!!!!

Hi @Rizz !

Not surprised, but I always felt like Leonardo was just used as fodder. She was the most reluctant signing I ever saw on DWCS. You could tell he really wanted Chelsea Hackett.

This is surprising. Who knew Wolf was still on the roster?

How is everyone? I finally kicked my interest MMA to the point I don't even have to check on who won the fights after the fact. Just checking back in here to make sure everyone else is doing good.

It's marijuana harvest season up here in Canada, so sticky & skunky.
Kinda going through the same thing, not following MMA nearly as much as I used to, spending lots more time chilling, getting high, and listening to music.

Stealing from Reddit, apparently Weili has some comments on her current schedule:
"She was offered to fight Grasso at 306 and accepted, but UFC backtracked and gave it to Valentina. She was then asked to wait and fight the winner, but Valentina wants to wait until August next year, so Weili has decided to do a title defense instead. Should be announced soon. Video if anyone who speaks Chinese wants to confirm."
unrelatedly, here's a pic of the UFC matchmaking team at work.

This is why I'm finding it harder & harder to care about MMA. Weili only has 2 title defences in her current reign, a completely clogged up division because she fights like once a year, and she's trying to get title fights booked at 125. Fuck that shit. The UFC needs to have a hard rule that says no shots at a 2nd belt until you rack up 5 defences in a row.

Oktagon has a strawweight title fight tomorrow:

It’s been exactly two years since their first fight, where Dalisda came away with a decision win. Dalisda has quietly racked up six straight wins, including winning and defending the title once. Martin picked up a win last year, and another earlier this year.

Tonight on Fight Pass:

Interesting signing. More bantamweights are always welcome, though

Booking Caliari fast after her DWCS win. Not surprising. Winners seemed to get booked fast

Should have seen this coming, Sygula is already booked. Pretty much the only way to get signed now, without going through one of the usual pipelines:
