Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Chandler looks miserable. This is why she campaigned for featherweight fights as soon as was signed.

Hopefully the same people who have helped Norma Dumont getting her weight down, can do the same for Chandler.

Decisive UD victory for Stepanie Luciano over Talita Alencar at 115. Luciano avenges their draw at DWCS. Varied attack of knees, elbows and legs kicks. Can work on distance control. Only 24, look forward to seeing her improve.

At bantamweight another decisive UD as Karol Rosa defeated Pannie Kianzad. Rosa looked sharp from the get go. Strong performance - best I've seen her look. Love seeing a fighter noticeably improve.

Also at bantamweight (at least for one fighter) Yana Santos out-struck Chelsea Chandler while crusing to the UD. Particularly happy for Santos who had been out for a year needed a win. Chandler showed up a whopping five pounds overweight which is unprofessional & disrespectful. Yana was her usual friendly self in the post-fight interview saying she didn't think about her opponent's weight miss and just concentrated on her own game. I hope she and her team have a laugh about it later, and that Yana puts together some move victories. Always liked her since her Invicta days.

Speaking of Invicta, I missed it 'cause I went to a concert. Here's some video I've found so far. If you find more video especially a summary please post it.

^ Jennifer Maia had a good three round scrap, won 29-28 on the scorecards, and had a faceoff with Talita Bernardo. Bernardo vs Maia will headline one of their upcoming events with the bantamweight title on the line.

I honestly like that matchup. Jennifer was a big flyweight, but she's not a true bantamweight by any means. Bernardo on the other hand, is a small bantamweight. So they're pretty evenly matched in size and experience. It's the best fight Invicta could put together for either one of them.

Jackie Cataline, who has fought for Bellator and PFL, won by third round TKO in dominant fashion. Invicta may have their future Featherweight champion in their hands now.

Jennifer Maia looked like a small Bantamweight then since i remember her being a bigger framed fighter back in the day but that
being said the only difference between Flyweight & Bantamweight nowadays is not that much on the scale since California of all
places have had Flyweights as much as 145-150 fight night with Bantamweights as much as 155 or just a nose hair over.

I was starting to think Vargas had retired

Andrea Amaro (5-2) vs Amber Terrell (3-4)

The current champ is Shannon Clark, who appears on DWCS in about a month

Sakamoto is known from Breaking Down, the YouTube Fight show run by the Asakura brothers where they find people to fight in one minute matches. Junna Tsukii was a medalist in Karate in SE Asian Games

Wow - had forgotten all about this one. Thank's a bunch for the reminder, Purp!

Quality grappling should ensue.

Ps. off for country house drinking weekend with the dudes, so you will all have to live without my absolutely useless comments re: weekend's fights :D Have a nice one!

Have fun bud. I'll probably catch up on some of the that stuff after the fact, if there's easy to find replays.

Glad you mentioned the grappling because did I read this correctly: Craig Jones vs. Gabi Garcia. Is Craig Jones a guy? Garcia's always entertaining either way. Also, I saw a post where in Mackenzie Dern vs. Ffion Davies that Davies will win. Davies must be a helluva good grappler.

Only one weekend pick for me. Santos over O'Neil by stoppage.

craig jones is definitely a guy and yes, he's grappling gabi garcia for reals! maybe not???

lol WTF is even going on 😅

At 33 she's gonna have to speed run to fix her mma record. Learning to wrestle and doing local bjj tournaments seems like a rough path mid 30's.

I wouldn't wish a ONE contract upon anyone, but I rather see her just kickbox with some of ONE's mt strawweights.

Yeah. A lot of pure striking battles are open to her.
