Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

remember when ailin perez's coach tried to choke out joselyn edwards last nov?

“I was sitting on the large octagon inside of the P.I. looking at my phone when I heard yelling to my right, [fighter manager Alex] Davis told MMAMania.com. “When I approached the cage, I saw Ailin and her coach on top of Joselyn, so jumped in to break up the fight. When I went to help out and saw the male coach choking Joselyn with a rear-naked choke, and it was very deep — he was cranking on the choke. If the choke was held on for much longer, it would have been a terrible scene.

“I’m not sure if she was fully unconscious, but she was close,” Davis continued. “When I got the coach off of Joselyn, the coach was ranting and yelling, trying to continue to fight. I was trying to calm Joselyn down because she thought she was still fighting.”

WTF, just seen that DeAnna Bennett faced Viviane Pereira at 125. I remember her being a 105er fighting at 115. Was surprised to see now she is at 125.

Viviane Pereria won
You remember wrong. The only time “Sucuri” ever tried to fight at atomweight, she failed to make weight.

I think you missunderstood what I meant. I don't mean that she actually fought at 105 but that she looked clearly small for 115. Kind of like Tecia fights at 115 but you can tell she is small for the division and would have a higher ceiling if she would ever fight at 105. Plus I can't blame her for not wanting to do all the work it would take to make 105(back in the day) for less pay.

Edit: Just checked out her sherdog page. It lists her as 5'0''. Yea, that is way too small for 115 and extremely small for 125.

Invicta FC 55 full card, per ticketing site Eventbrite:

Invicta Fighting Championships 55, Bernardo vs Rubin

Bantamweight Title:
Talita Bernardo vs. Olga Rubin
Strawweight: Kay Hansen vs. Sayury Cañon
Atomweight: Saori Oshima vs. Andressa Romero
Bantamweight: Taylor Guardado vs. Yoko Higashi
Atomweight: Elisandra “Lili” Ferreira vs. Katie Saull
Flyweight: Zoe Nowicki vs. Josiane Oliveira
Flyweight: Fallon Johnson vs. Paula Montanez

Oshima’ an opponent is not who I thought it would be. Must have been a change up.lili Ferreira I knew was a lock, as she had been talking about a fight coming up on June 28th.
Surprisingly good comeback card for Invicta
Nice to see strong wrestling representation

I'm picking Pérez via strong wrestling.
Since her coach already RNC'd Joselyne, I'm sure he can pass on his insider knowledge....

Sammy Jo Luxton is in the hospital with bad sepsis, so PFL Europe is out its latest blonde to favor. Replacing her will be Karolina Wojcik, moving up in weight on short notice

Double G FC this week has a pair of ladies bouts, including a bantamweight title bout:

Just a reminder that TUF 32: Team Grasso vs. Team Shevchenko started this evening. It's on every Tuesday, 10pm eastern time. Here's the watch party thread.

It's funny, I'm a huge Grasso fan, and this is the third reminder of the show I've seen in the past 24 hours, and the third time I realized I had forgotten all about it. TUF is dead

that's great to hear! i was worried that it would turn out weird and cringey like ronda/miesha or joanna/claudia
Yeah neither came in hot and they both love coaching.

I anticipate drama as the pressure builds. The fighters are from 14 different countries. A few of them are familiar with one coach but were picked by the other team.

Val gave everyone on her team a bullet - and one to Dana because she said she wants to be on his good side. She also declared there's no water or drinks during workouts. Perhaps the editors left it in because there may be tension if anyone gets dehydrated.

The chat thread is ongoing. Please join us if you wish.

i only have fight pass (and not espn) so i can't watch tuf 32 juuuust yet. will defs lurk in the comments tho

early picks since i'm flying out during this weekend's fight night:
- rayanne dos santos by ud or tko - i remember thinking dos santos' last fight against talita alencar was close. rayanne can put 2 strikes together and i reckon this will give her the win over puja here

- how is denise gomes the underdog against eduarda moura??? moura is big for sw... but that's it. gomes has already fought far better ufc competition in loma and angie and finished yazmin jauregui and bruna brasil. gomes by ko/tko

- gosh what a hot mess of a fight. i have a soft spot for both kgb and mdlr so i don't wanna see either of them lose. a draw it is then
