Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

is there any more tedious WMMA social media presence than Cryborg?

The sad thing about Cyborg is that she is very nice in person but her handlers are the worst. Her account blocked me and I have never even @ her on any social media. It means she searches her name on social media and blocks anyone who says something they does not like. If you don't like people talking about you failing a drug test then don't do PEDs. I was never a fan so the block meant nothing to me.

It’s a singular handler in the form of her husband Ray Elbe. He handles her fight negotiations & runs all her socials. Unfortunately he sort of botched the latter half of her career. Even Tito couldn’t stand the guy.

I think their original plan post UFC was to rack up Bellator defenses against “Boxing World Champ Blencowe” “IMMAF & Irish boxing Champ Kavanagh” “Former UFC title challenger Zingano” & “Former UFC Title Challenger & Silver Medalist McMann” all these fancy titles plus Cyborg’s own name value would’ve equaled her being able to claim GOAT status. Unfortunately Cris has not really proven to a huge draw ever since leaving the UFC & the fans seem relatively aware the only real fights she’s had since leaving the UFC were Budd & Blencowe.

Now the last big money fight against Harrison is gone, & her options are a gimme fight against McCourt or a younger version of herself. In my opinion, she’s going to price herself out a of Pacheco fight & then claim McCourt & her could draw a huge crowd/purse in Belfast (this is probably true) & retire after.

Here’s a long lost name:

Also, the southpaw outlaw is back

Are Lithuanians P4P the most powerful nation in WMMA? 🤔

Tomorrow we have Julija Stoliarenko, fresh from her career-best win over the almighty Molly the Can, competing in the world's top Human Cockfighting organisation.
Their diaspora includes top ranked combatants like Jasmine Jasudavicious (looking good at 125, might have been a solid contender if she was a bit younger), and of course Rose Namajunas who is a multiple champ in WMMA's historically toughest division and when on her best form arguably the second greatest female hand-to-hand fighter in human herstory.
There is also Ernesta CarrotSkater waiting to debut after getting signed from DWCS last year.
That's quite an impressive number of top grade human cockfighters considering the country itself has a population of only 2.8 million (it would be about the 22nd biggest city/metro by population in the USA).

What's interesting too is I can't think of any notable WMMA fighters from Latvia or Estonia. Maybe being right next door to Poland (a major MMA and WMMA hub) helps (although that doesn't account for the norf murican born 'n' raised).

S. Korea’s Double G FC has decided to crown a bantamweight champion:

Jung Yoon Choi (5-3) should have this one in the bag, as the Filipina is 0-2. What she does after this is anyone’s guess, as Double G’s events are sporadic (I don’t think they put on any events last year), and Asia isn’t exactly a wellspring of women bantamweights.

In Muay Thai at atomweight 115: 17 year old Thai fighter Chabakaew Sor KanJanchai won by UD over tough American Rebecca Watford. Both fighters were well conditioned and gave an action packed performance. Watford kept constant pressure while Chewbacca landed the more accurate power shots.

The entire card is available now for free streaming on YouTube. I love good Muay Thai.

Oksana Chernikova (Latvian) was an active female kickboxer in the 2000s. She also had a few MMA fights in the early euro wmma scene. (Which was kind of cool from 98-05, before falling off a cliff till the early 2010s)

Although he's a casual now who doesn't even watch MMA anymore (or so he keeps claiming 🤨), thread regular @Rizz 's dick pill company is now an official UFC sponsor! Congratulations Rizz!

Viviane Araujo vs. Natália Silva. Silva by KO.
Molly McCann vs. Diana Belbiţă. McCann by decision.
Julija Stoliarenko vs. Luana Carolina. Stoli by sub.

Diana Belbita has a side job:

turns out diana is considering retirement, seems like she's in a good headspace tho:

this week's "uhhhh... idk" picks:
- julija by hilarious armbar
- molly ud i guess?
- vivi plods forward and eats lots of left high kicks from natalia

Stoliarenko over Carolina. Stoliarenko made Carolina cut one extra pound before she’d accept the fight. Smart thinking. I think that’ll help.

Silva over Araujo. Would like to see Silva’s train halted temporarily, but Araujo at this stage is Taylor made for her: slow, plodding.

McCann over Belbita. Another I’d like to see the opposite, but another example of the matchmakers know what they’re doing, when they’re motivated to help certain fighters.
