Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Well, USADA's gonna be gone from the UFC at the end of this year, it shouldn't take too long before we have a bunch of science experiments Hulk smashing the shit out of current roster. On one hand, this is pretty horrible for fair competition & sportsmanship. On the other hand, my inner Just Bleed fan looks forward to the best violence that science can create.

Pretty sure the ufc replaced usada with another organization.

Invicta FC 54 Gets Two New High-Caliber Matchups
SAYAN NAG OCT 12, 2023

Invicta Fighting Championships
’s Boston debut later this month has been stacked with several new high-profile matchups.

Invicta FC 54 will now feature a strawweight co-main event between mixed martial arts veteran Kalindra Faria (19-9) and fellow Brazilian and former champion Valesca Machado (12-4). “Tina Black” will replace Faria’s originally scheduled opponent Isis Verbeek, who was forced out of the card recently. A three-time Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, Faria has faced former Invicta champs Jennifer Maia and Vanessa Porto, as well as contenders Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Joanne Calderwood, over a career spanning more than a decade. Additionally, a bantamweight clash between Canada’s Maria Djukic (2-1) and Massachusetts-based Brazilian Fernanda Araujo (2-3) has been added to the card.

Invicta FC 54 takes place Oct. 27 at Citizens House of Blues in Boston. In the main event, Invicta strawweight champion Danni McCormack (7-2) will make her first title defense against Polish challenger Karolina Wojcik (11-3). The main card also features Bellator MMA veteran Kristina Williams in a flyweight clash with SBG Ireland export Dee Begley.

  • Cris Cyborg: 144.6 to 163.4 (13%)
  • Cat Zingano: 144.6 to 146.4 (1%)
  • Liz Carmouche: 124.8 to 146.0 (17%)
  • Ilima-Lei Macfarlane: 126.6 to 140.4 (11%)
  • Leah McCourt: 146.0 to 155.6 (7%)
  • Sara McMann: 145.4 to 147.6 (2%)
  • Jena Bishop: 125.4 to 135.4 (8%)
  • Ilara Joanne: 125.6 to 136.0 (8%)
  • Jackie Cataline: 145.4 to 148.6 (2%)
  • Lorrany Santos: 145.6 to 163.8 (13%)

This bish Carmouche has been talking about a bantamweight division for a while now, and now we see why. At her age, cutting almost 22 pounds must be horrible, regardless of how much muscle she has.

She weighed in almost the same as Zingano who fought for a title TWO divisions above her on the same night!!!

The only reason I wouldn't mind her fighting at bantamweight in Bellator, would be to see her getting bullied by Blencowe, McMann, and Zingano all dropping down to their natural weight class. Otherwise go ahead and challenge Cyborg if you're so brave and eager to move up.

Zingano, McMann, and Cataline are simply not cutting any weight.
Cat really phoned in this fight coming in at only 146 after years to bulk up for the division and only planning on wrestling.

Sara too but she's been at fw for a much shorter time.

I know Jennifer took this fight on short notice, but she should be fighting up! That's four fights in a row where she faces someone lower ranked than her.

Maia vs Araujo has been scheduled and scrapped a few times by now, so I won't believe they're fighting until they're in the octagon. I'm taking Maia by decision, I can't see either of them getting a finish: Maia is very durable, has a good chin, and defends well on the ground. Araujo has a chin, and defends well on the ground too. It's a decision waiting to happen.

It sucks that Vivi might have a three loss streak after tomorrow, but she's actually older than Maia and has clearly hit a ceiling. Maia has improved even at the age of 35 (she even did most of her media day interview in English!!), I think she's got a better chance of remaining a gatekeeper at this stage of their careers.

29-28 Maia.

CFFC just announced an interesting Strawweight title fight.

Looking forward to the Ashley Yoder fight, she really is the great survivor of wmma. 3-7 in the UFC with every fight going to a decision, yet here she is, nearly seven full years after her debut.

Wouldn't surprise me if she gets an itd win and a couple more years on the roster.

Forgot all about tonight because senility. Picking Maia because she has great grappling and actual boxing. I like Yoder but cannot see her winning. Too bad as she seems like a really nice person. No time to review the others. I would happily be wrong about Yoder.

Aww, poor Yoder. Those cuts are gnarly - she did try to put up a decent fight, though, landed a few elbows and other assored stuff. Just seems she has no proper striking power whatsoever so even with stuff landing to the face, Ducote just mostly no sold it. Interesting to see if she stays in the UFC now, cause she has been kept this long already.

Happy to see the "Russian Ronda" defeated - also for the hair. Dixon had an impressive debut, the grappling was bueno. Englander who can legit grapple?! What is going on?!

Lisboa fight was the last one I had endurance to see live before dying from tireddness. Catching up with the rest now with coffee.

Jennifer Maia vs. Viviane Araujo. A clean solid fight at flyweight. Hard and well fought by both women. Nice bounce back for Araujo after losing her previous one. Maia is usually good in the clinch and Araujo gave it right back and even looked stronger in the wrestling and grappling exchanges. Key moment mid second round when Araujo won a scramble and proceeded to maintain top position for quite a while. Maia came back to win the third round - she is tough - but it was too little too late. Enjoyable fight and big win for Viviane.

Tainara Lisboa vs. Ravena Oliveira. Lisboa put on a strong display. Clear win for her and I enjoyed how she kept hunting for finishes. Refreshing seeing some good batamweight prospects tonight. Will continue watching Lisboa with interest.

Irina Alekseeva vs. Melissa Dixon. Changed my tap pick to Dixon after reviewing info during fight week. Very good performance for her ufc debut. Strong wrestling and grappling. Consistent and good fight iq. One to watch at bantamweight.

Ashley Yoder vs. Emily Ducote. A welcome return to fundamental striking and footwork for Emily Ducote. She looked as determined and confident as she did during her Invicta days. Perhaps Emily's best ufc performance. Remained patient and kept scoring with that strong jab and hook. Yoder was game but as a commentator noted didn't get forward momentum on her strikes. She'll need those deep nasty cuts stitched up soon.

Honestly thought Dixon/Alekseeva was a fun fight. Dixon has early career Cat Zingano ferocity & heart, which is crazy rare at 135. I wouldn’t even mind seeing Lisboa/Dixon & Oliveira/Alekseeva. The new signings have been fun, & there are a lot of fun prospects like Lucia Szabova, Sierra Dinwoodie, Emily Marina, Bella Mir, Zurrina Turrey, Melissa Croden, Jasmine Favero, Sabrina Se Souza, Klaudia Sygulla, & Cecile Bolander coming up. You couldn’t have spotted this much talent at 135 a few years back.

Ducote busted up Yoder who looked better than ever tonight. It’s too bad Ducote is just that much crisper. Ducote still desperately needs some aggression in her game so i hope a small step up is what’s next.

Maia/Araujo was close, & showed both women are solidly top 15 at 125 still. I’d like to see them both take on a prospect next.
