Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Something im working on for a video, but has anyone who watches the regionals noticed that LFA is pushing for Brazilians to hold their titles above all others?

LFA owner is Ed Soares. Soares used to run guys like Anderson Silva. He’s also investing in brazilian regional events with the LFA brand.
So thats basically normal

This. I honestly wish LFA would run more events in Brazil than they do in the US. Their events in Brazil feel bigger. There's a deep talent pool of unsigned Brazilian WMMA fighters.

Yep. He probably also signs the fighters to his management company, so he’s making money off them when they sign to UFC

Btw, random question: is he managing Bia mesquita?

I wish they would have announced this sooner than this week

There are a few aspects to this.

First is that they do sign, or try to sign for management most Brazilian that looks like it has a shot of making to the UFC. And they can offer them fights at a higher purse than the usual standard in brazil while giving them favorable matchups, so as expected many do sign with them. That has been seen more done by Rafael Feijão than Ed, Ed was always careful in not make it look too obvious but Feijão is not as suttle, poaching fighters not just for management but for his fight team as well.

Than you have the simple fact that Brazilians are way easier to deal with than americans. They don't complain as much, are not as picky with matchups, so it makes LFAs life easier on the matchmaking side.

And the final thing that comes to mind is that they get government grants in Brazil. They get casino site fees in the US, but I imagine the brazil shows have to be much more lucrative for them, and for that to keep going its in their best interest to keep building brazilian talent that is marketable (simplest way to do it is putting a belt around their waist).

So is Feijao running LFA’s Brazilian shows? He has his own gym/management company?

SFH shows are pretty good. They put on shows to highlight the fighters they manage mostly.

He's the lead figure of LFA Brazil and the R1 Fighting Series shows which is why their entire presentations are very similar.

The government grants have to be very good as LFA doesn't charge for tickets in Brazil. Neither does Jungle Fight although Jungle Fight does have a huge TV audience and they are backed by Rede Globo.

Good signing for PFL. It seems like in recent years PFL has relied more on scouting fighters from LUX than the UFC. There's some quality fighters there to sign.
