Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

ufc picks: jamey-lyn and rose

the fight i'm looking forward to most is at RWS - mongkutpetch vs. duangdawnoi. mongkutpetch is young, but she smothered phayahong for 5 straight rounds to get the belt. duangdawnoi has more experience; she's more of a back foot precision striker.duangdawnoi also won their last matchup in RWS. still, i think mongkutpetch has the stamina to wilt duangdawnoi. it's gonna be a great fight.

Thats a kesa-gatame if im not wrong
Its a very common move in judo

Also Stiller’s nickname is macjudo
kesa-gatame is the scarf hold :)

stiller used her legs to hold trillo's arm and her hips to apply the lock to the elbow, so... a straight arm lock i guess (edit: caposa said it already, duh me)

luana santos has hit a couple of those scarf-hold arm locks, which she demonstrates on nina drama here (timestamped):

at first i was like, nah, that looks too tricky to pull off - but i guess it's just one of those judoka things

@Xuh, look who's in your neighbourhood. I believe she could use some help with her wrestling.

What a coincidence! I could use some help with my Having An Elite Getaway Pilot To Call At A Moment's Notice On My Phone. Plus I've got the week off, plenty of time to organize a mutually beneficial transaction, and an excuse to go to London

(...it's somewhere all GOATs end up at some point after all)

Fights:
Horth by being bigger. In a boring fight
Rose by meh. In a boring fight

The specialty of Ayaka Miura in ONE, to the point they call it the “Ayaka Lock.”

The right fight to make. Sucks for Pudilova who fell to the injury bug, but Oktagon has to do it. Pudilova posted a day or two ago that she’s finally able to put pressure on her knee unaided

Yeah
One also took it as ayaka miura signature move.
They even called it “zombielock” lol
She managed to hit it on bo meng btw

Really liked Rose/Maverick - Miranda kept the fight interesting througout, every time Rose seemed to be close to securing the win she did something to turn the tables. Once again a nice reminder that a clear win can still be a competitive fight and good entertainment. Hope Maverick only hurt, not injured her leg/foot/whatever.

Only thing I could get away from Horth vs. Demopoulos was ho fukken gigantic Horth was in there. Not unentertaining, but crikey... But Vanessa has more fighting spirit than many "better" fighters from more "fightery" backgrounds do. Trying to asspull something during the 3rd is a pleasant change for the all to common "we have already lost" type of round 3. Did she try to even initiate a submission attempt by walking the cage fence?

mav w possible acl tear in 2nd round according to ig:

i feel like they got robbed of FOTN, their fight was more competitive than usman/buckley

meantime david v goliath was more entertaining than expected, props to both ladies

Two good women's flyweight fights there Miranda looked much better vs rose who's still one of the best than I thought she would.
Horth got to really style on a game opponent which she needed to do vs a short notice SW stepping in to bad she didn't finish that'd be a big help getting another contract.
