WMMA Discussion #29

Not sure who I have for Pena vs. Harrison this weekend. I guess it all depends on what Harrison looks and acts like on the scale. She will likely look terrible. If I was not concerned about Harrison's cardio I would pick Harrison all day but unless Harrison finishes the fight I have a feeling this will go 5 rounds.

I want to think Harrison bullies Pena for 5 rounds but Pena's cardio and ability to take punishment is really good and I could see Pena winning the championship rounds.

If Shevchenko can take Peña down and submit her, I have no doubt Harrison can. If GDR can submit Peña, I have no doubt Harrison can.

Your bantamweight champion, sir

Edit: this is nice to see:

I agree which is why I said I could see Harrison doing that but IF Pena survives those exchanges for the first 2 rounds it gets interesting. The strange thing about this match up to me is if Pena wins I think the bigger Strawweights should think about moving to Bantamweight such as Manon. An old division with weak contenders and 2 or 3 wins will get you a title shot.

personally I think Kayla is a very difficult style matchup for Pena. Pena rushes forward when she’s striking, & if she looks to go to the ground she likes trips. I feel like Kayla should be able to counter both of those tendencies & get Pena down early & often. Pena’s 23% TDD is glaring to me. I know Pena has been training with some Judoka, but Kayla is a real master, & takedowns should come early & often.

I agree it will get more interesting if it goes long.. but I have to remind myself Pena looked weak later against Pennington & Nunes in the 2nd fight & Kayla dominated Ketlen & Aspen Ladd in the 3rd of her most recent fights.

The Combate Female fight card on June 19 will be the first of five Combate Global live television events that were announced last week.

Complete Combate Female fight card for June 19 on YouTube and Samsung Plus below:

STRAWWEIGHT MAIN EVENT: Melissa “Mamba” Amaya (7-0) vs. Bruna Ellen (7-5)

CATCHWEIGHT (130 LBS.) CO-MAIN EVENT: Regina “Kill Bill” Tarin (5-0) vs. Kaytlin “Katniss” Neil (7-5)

FLYWEIGHT: Karen “KO” Omen (1-0) vs. Katherinne “La Maldita” Machuca (3-2)

CATCHWEIGHT (110 LBS): Melissa Gomez (3-0) vs. Mariah Castro (2-2)

STRAWWEIGHT: Claudia “La Lobita” Pizarro (1-0) vs. Blanca “Pura Sangre” Medina (1-3)

Free on YouTube. Melissa Amaya is always a good watch, and wasted at Combate. Regina Tarin is supposed to be slotted for DWCS. Not sure how this will affect that. Neil, will be a tough fight. Melissa Gomez is 4-1, not 3-0. Pizarro had a fun debut fight

This is a good example of how shallow WBW can be outside of a few promotions. Cook is 4-1, but can’t seem to find a decent opponent. I keep hoping Invicta reaches out to her.

Also, weird to see CFFC holding an event that’s not on the east coast.

This one really flew under the radar, and I follow Brave on various social media

ufc questions this weekend, no picks:
- can julianna be crazy enough to beat kayla? in recent fights julianna has dialled back on throwing herself into subs, a sign of growth. can julianna out-bully the bully like larissa pacheco did? more importantly, will this fight be entertaining to watch???

- has TAM given the joker her confidence back? lipski is pretty good on the ground these days but wrestling isn't her strong suit, she's more of an opportunistic finisher. on the feet they're both primarily counter-strikers, will this mean we get another octagon staring contest for 15 minutes?? fuck i hope not...
