Sherdog Breakthrough Fighter of the Year Dakota Ditcheva Continues to Stack Awards

The marvelous journey for Professional Fighters League’s Dakota Ditcheva continues to grow through the end of 2024. After bursting onto the scene in 2023, Ditcheva made her arrival known by collecting the PFL Europe Women’s Flyweight title, and doing so in emphatic fashion, putting away all her opponents by stoppage during her run to the PFL Europe gold and the $100,000 grand prize.

Not satisfied with her accomplishments at PFL Europe, Ditcheva arrived on the PFL Global stage in 2024, joining the women’s flyweight season and continuing her run of finishes to extend her undefeated record. Putting away all her opponents by stoppage in2024, Ditcheva’s success would grow even more, becoming PFL champion on their Global stage, while adding a $1 million grand prize check.

Ditcheva continues to see the accolades stockpile in her young career. Days after being named Sherdog’s Breakthrough Fighter of the Year for 2024, the26-year-old was crowned MMA Junkie’s Women’s Fighter of the Year.Could the hits keep coming for Ditcheva? Stay tuned for Sean Sheehan’s yearly “The Sheehan Show Awards” this coming week to find out if “Dangerous” adds even more hardware.

i'm trying to pull together a best of list this year but man, so much of it was a slog. got any highlights to offer up?
Bernardo vs Rubin, Aldana vs Dumont, Zhang vs Yan, Pudilova vs Bolander in Oktagon, there’s been some good slug feasts this year, most of them were outside the UFC, though

A couple of changes for this weekend’s action:

From

To

Apparently Jeong Eun Park suffered an orbital fracture, if the translation is anything to go by. Seo Young Lark just won a fight on the 15th, securing the Shooto Atomweight Infinity League title for this year. Round robin style tournament. A win this weekend will mean four for her this year. She’ll be wearing my logo on her walkout shirt, too

In Oktagon news:

Sucks for Lucia Szabova, but the first fight between Pudilova and Bolander was razor close and hella fun, so we’re still getting a good one. The Szabova can face the winner (unless Bolander wins in another close one, and the d]run the trilogy)

The latest Dakota Ditcheva video on youtube picked up close to two million views in a day and is still going strong. By the evidence of the 4000 plus comments a lot of the views are from folk who are at best casuals.

Whatever you think of Ditcheva this interest is good for wmma, which is somewhat in the doldrums because of the UFC's shortsighted policies - rematches, once a year title fights, weak signings replacing better but more expensive fighters.

Of course to capitalise on this interest Dakota needs to keep fighting and winning. Maybe the UFC can buy her into the organisation, maybe PFL can lure someone away from the UFC -- perhaps Rose could take a lucrative retirement fight or how about Dakota v Joanna (I know they're pals but zlotys!)

Probably nothing will happen and we'll all go back to sleep. Anyway Happy New Year to you all.

Liana Jojua's father is a Russian mafia guy, "thief in law" so he isn't some low ranked guy as well

Now it makes sense. If you follow her on IG you know she got a lot of money. The type of money that she probably don't have to work but loves to train and fight so she does it.

speaking of ATT fwiends it seems Dakota and Aysia 'Not Tracy' Cortez have struck up some BFF-ship, I find this particular paring to be super kawaii for some reason (maybe it's because they seem an unlikely duo in my mind - the LatAm wrassler and the Manchester kickyboxy (herself with an improbable name). Aysia even got beat up in Dakotaesque fashion by some mooey-tai fighter in her debut fight (hence the time off the mats I guess). Maybe Dakota can avenge her death in Van Damme style...?
They would also make a good 'buddy cop movie' combo, they have the requisite differing physiques/faces and 'Dakota Ditcheva' already sounds like the name of a character in a B-Movie (Bas Rutten played someone called 'Dakota Varley' once in some straight-to-video Z-movie and that name made me laugh).

A little worried for Yazmin moving up in weight, but maybe it’ll help her ability to absorb damage. Barbosa not a bigger hitter, but you never know

Didn’t see this one posted previously:
