Wing Chun vs BJJ? Should I be worried?

Sticky hands... LOL GTFO OF THE GRAPPLING FORUM

As I said, twice, and ChinaBoxer confirmed - Chi Sau is a training exercise, not a technique for use in a fight. You're either exceptionally unintelligent or a troll, either way I doubt we'll be seeing you around here come next month if you continue as you are.

You ain't even mad but I bet that butt is hurtin.

Sorry but I can't respect any martial artist who wastes their time on obsolete girly arts

In theory its golden but the punches and system dont stand up even to other striking styles.

I honestly think the quick disrupting kicks could be effective if drilled a lot. Its almost like a leg jab more than a quick thai kick. When an opponent tries a spin kick it could throw them off balance. Also a quick kick to the leg followed by normal boxng punches seems plausible. Anyone had any exierience

what would you advanced grapplers do if you fight a wingchun, aikido, karate artist who happens to be very good at defending takedowns?

Standing guillotine/kimura/waki gatame, or a flying triangle or armbar. Last resort pull guard and sweep straight away. Assuming his takedown defense is better than my takedowns (unlikely from a Chunner, Aikidoka, or a Karateka).

That stance they use makes takedowns very easy. If they adjust their stance to defend the takedowns then they are no longer using their art. In order to have good takedown defense they would have to be using a hybrid or "Mixing Martial Arts"

I know that, I trained wing chun.
wing chun like bjj tries to close the space between both fighters.
wing chun remains erect while bjj goes down for the takedown.
it is true that wing chun and other martial arts don't care/take into account what happens when you go to the ground.
I guess in the old days if one fighter fell down the other would wait for him to get up.
once he stopped getting up he was considered beaten.
that's the way men fought until not long ago.... until the gracies showed their face :icon_lol:

He actually may be able to. He isn't talking about fighting a professional MMA fighter there, but an armed thug who most likely has no training..............:P

May be to yes, but unlikely.

If you're going to try and stop a takedown, even by a thug, I think it's been established by now what the most effective ways to stop a takedown are. To think the "foom foom!" elbows to the back of the head and Fei Long's thousand punches is the way to stop a takedown is to show you haven't faced too many takedowns coming from an unwilling opponent..

Here we go again with this stupid statement aka "no true Scotsman".
Guess what, according to your logic the ONLY art used in MMA competition is "a hybrid or Mixing Martial Arts" because every single art is adjusted to this particular form of competition and everybody cross-trains.

So either you call MMA fighters "X-stylists" replacing X with their base art OR you call ALL of them "just MMA fighters" with no definitive style. You can't pick and choose to say that for example BJJ guys are still BJJ guys in MMA (despite punching and kicking) and other guys have no right to represent their art if God forbid they adjust or cross-train!

I guess in the old days if one fighter fell down the other would grab a stick and beat that ass like it was on fire. A sword, staff or poleaxe would be even better. I mean who would fight unarmed anyway? That's probably why grappling (on the ground) wasn't that popular historically... once you're on the ground you're an easy target for any kind of weapon. Forget pulling guard vs a spear.

what?
I'm saying that for some reason many traditional styles seem to have ignored ground fighting until recently (wing chun, karate, taekwondo).
I won't go into boxing or muay thai because those are sports.
but wing chun was invented for self defense so it should consider everything. same karate.
this makes me that either in the old days nobody knew what the hell to do on the ground or they would just get back to their feet and continue from there.

I dont think MT was created as an sport, like most MAts, it was intented to be a real self defese system, wich in fact is...
