Wing Chun vs BJJ? Should I be worried?

Well if anyone is interested this is how it went when i fought a WC guy when i was a blue belt with almost no standup and wrestling experience... wc guy had same time training as i did, about 18 months.

I fought a wc brown belt/sash about a year later, the fight went exactly the same way.

Dude, you realize the whole time he's thinking

"If I go ahead and beat this guy I'll be displaying our secret moves on camera. Better to just look like I'm being defeated."

Booo. It got "postponed" I guess I have to keep training and wait.

Nice. Was that on McDojo aka Bullshido back in the day?

Dude is probably an elite level wrestler and is just baiting you by pretending to be strictly wing chun.

In before OP gets pwned.

wow..so many wing chun haters! :( i teach wing chun and enjoy it immensely. it's not wing chun that fails, it's the individuals all over youtube who don't really understand it and get owned. i always teach my students that wing chun is about learning to handle lots of "pressure" through constant contact of your opponent through the correct use of the hips. this is also the exact same concept in grappling. as a matter of fact, wing chun and grapplers have the same problem...both have to safely close the gap in order to get it to work.

anyways, i know that no matter what i say, it's not going to sway your opinions, but if you're in the LA area, i'm always looking for sparring partners, not to prove anything but rather to keep growing as a martial artist. or even if you'd rather just get together and share, i'm always up for learning!

here is a link to a video i did on how to defend the takedown understand that this video was intended for wing chunners and not grapplers, because chunners are so horrible at staying on their feet.

Just watched your video. 100000x better than most "anti-grapple" wing chun videos I've seen on youtube. Actually displays correct wrestling mechanics and defense lol.

thanks! i really appreciate that.

here's another video of me doing chi sau or sticky hands training, which is an exercise very similar to the grappling pummeling drill that leads to many other movements.

chi sau video

hopefully you can see some of the similar concepts that are also found in grappling. Kevin, came from Sweden to train with me for a week, he has limited grappling experience and has been training wing chun for 8 years.

Chi Sau is not a fight technique it's a training exercise. That's like saying a boxer would knock a Judoka out if he were to practice his Uchi Komi on him.

Edit: I'm not a Wing Chun practioner, nor do I consider it effective but if you're going to criticize it don't start from complete ignorance.

I'ev seen other videos of sticky hands vs bjj.

So you're a TMA guy who also does kata? UFC1 was almost 20 years ago

As I said sticky hands is not a fighting technique; it's a training exercise so saying "a boxer would knock you out if you tried to do sticky hands on him" is stupid.

No. I practice BJJ, Submission Wrestling, and Judo. I don't practice Wing Chun nor any other TMA, and never have.

do you have some real sparring session?

looks pretty cool, thing is, not really realistic though...

If you saw Ip-Man, you know you only gotta worry if you're Japanese :]

No, any non-Chinese combatant, even multiple non-Chinese combatants, are easily defeated by any Kung Fu fighter.

The only style that is ever successful against Wing Chun is Wing Chun.

You're toast.

1. Fake over hand punch
2. change levels
3. clinch takedown
4. pass guard
5. submit

Great video! Take what is being said in here as some what tongue and cheek and from an obvious grappling bias.

But you're obviously a "Mixed Martial Artist" for a reason and that is because it has been proven that standup fighting alone is not enough. It isn't complete.

Real impressed with your stuff tho.
