Crime Will the new Work From Home economy have an effect on crime? Miami reports no murders for 7 weeks...

I'm sure the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases are down, too. People aren't mingling as much. There's undoubtedly less sex.

We could stop having sex. It would stop STDs. No need to spare the baby with the bathwater.

Wonder how much domestic violence and abuse have gone up.

Also, this is just the calm before the storm. Cut off those stimulus checks and see what happens.

A lot. A buddy of mine is a police officer, and I was talking to him about this. He figured about 75% of his calls now are domestic incidents and it's only getting worse.

Yeah, I'm sure the gang bangers are taking time off right now.

Or close the liqour store.

"Those murders are being recorded as fake Covid deaths!"

It makes sense that certain crime will be diminished with the current circumstances. There are going to be some natural benefits that come along with lockdowns, like a drop in pollution and some crime. But there will be in increase in some other crime, so it's a two way street.

"The city of Miami experienced its first seven-week period without a single homicide since 1957 "

This got me thinking about how if we encouraged more work from home behaviors, neighborhoods would become waaaaay riskier for trying things like petty crime and the sort because the odds of someone being home, or a neighbor being home, would be increased dramatically.
Thoughts?
Nobody is out and about to find the bodies

WFH is something we should have been doing a long time ago

less traffic
Less pollution
Less sexual harassment
Less rent
More free time

its a win win

Jobs where all a worker does is sit at a computer and answer a phone I see just continuing to work from home after this. What’s the reason for an employer to even bring back to set office space?

They basically offload the electricity costs and can pay for a smaller office building if they had more just a few communal working areas for those that go in and more conference rooms for when in person meetings are needed or customer visits, but don’t need to have space for a deal for everyone.

The number of time hospitals spend on alcoholics going through withdrawal shocked me. They kept the liquor stores open or alcoholics not getting their fix would be what overruns the healthcare system.

I read a report from Australia stating that the manufacturing and selling of online child pornography has gone up 200%. They’re starting streaming services now where you pay for a subscription on the dark web and get weekly content updates.

I’ve been curious to see what’s going to happen to harder drug users like heroin and meth. Not sure if it will be easier or harder to traffic drugs into towns during lockdown.

It's something most people said is impossible. The reason for that is a) a control need by many among leadership who didn't trust their folks to work properly when not under close supervision and b) a lack of experience that it does work.

I can just say I work more than before and sometimes even get more done as I don't lose time on the road. Yes, workshops aren't the same, but there is no reason not to have, say, an office day (e.g. Monday) where people are per default present and the rest of the week is WFH unless you need to go to the office for some reason.
(Once this is all 'over'.)

I mean people who consume child pornography also have jobs. Now likely working from home or out of work. So it makes sense that the 'pornhub trends' also extend to that, unfortunately.

No idea about other countries, but there’s no places with limits on travel in the states. Just encouragement not to travel.

Calling this a lockdown has always been an over exaggeration. Governments did dictate what businesses have to close. But other than that it’s been nothing but encouraging people to not travel or get together in groups.

I like working from home, commuting is a huge waste of time. But I've heard of some colleagues who claim that they "can't work" because of the pandemic even though they're not personally affected, and once you press for more information they admit it's just because they can't regulate their behaviour and got lazy/distracted. These assholes are why everyone is made to work in a physical location.

I haven’t actually looked into it but I work at a warehouse and we get out of state truck drivers and some have said they were stopped at the boarder by DOT to make sure they were carrying “essential” type items. Like I said I don’t know if that’s true or not just what I’ve been hearing.
