Will the Izzy-knockout affect Alex Pereira’s confidence and/or fighting style?

It was a flash ko, not like he needed oxygen or anything. He’ll be fine, let’s not forget it’s Izzy who’s avoiding the mma trilogy not Alex.

Izzy just wants Alex to pay his dues... and he knew he couldn't, so he goes up to striker heavy 205

How many chances does the guy need? Hes tried 3x to get a undeniable win, always has to be wobbled first and saved or have the bell chime in
He'd probably trade it all for 1 of what Izzy did to him

Most certainly yes, he is human and there is tons of history that fighters do not come back the same after taking a very bad KO like that. There is no way he will go into his next fight with that same feeling of invincibility.

Izzy was young when he took his KO and has had a long time to think about it and I think that has highly contributed to him developing his defensive striking style that has been extremely effective in MMA.

My question is will it matter against other opponents not named Israel Adesanya, the only person in UFC or maybe the world that can match his striking? To send Alex back to the shadow realm you have to hit him with power and accuracy that reminds him of getting hit by Izzy. Do any of these LHWs have the skill to fight through Alex's kicks, avoid his left hook, and land perfectly placed power shots like Izzy? I don't think so.

Alex will likely look a lot more like Izzy has against other opponents, much more strategic, attacking from distance against very timid opponents scared to step forward and enter range against this level of striker.

I don’t think he will do great but not because he will be shooked. He’s 36 and got his jaw shattered in 100 pieces. 205ers are stronger and hit harder.

No, I don't think so he's an elite striker and his bread and butter is striking. He knows he needs to be 110% in that area to succeed. Pereira knows he is one of the best strikers in the world.

Its not like Usman getting KOED who going in to the Leon trilogy was probably thinking Leon has the striking advantage therefore he needs to get the fight to the ground asap. But that in turn made him really cautious on the feet to the point he didn't push the pace nearly as much as he should have.

If he has any doubts then his welcoming fight at LHW should be Anthony Smith before he fights the KO artists Jiri/Hall. It'll allow him to regain his confidence against a not so dangerous striker.

Don't think so. He seems to cold blooded and rational to let this get to him.
He'll see this as a lesson. Don't get to excited and leave yourself open. It's not like he took a beating and got KOed.

It was that "didn't saw it coming" type of KO, his fault for going for broke.

Yes, at least a tiny bit. Doesn't mean it will necessarily matter much in future fights.

… and to a lesser extent, his fighting style?

Alex has never been KO’d in his fighting career, prior to his loss against Adesanya last week.
Poatan only had 2 TKO losses.

In 2016, Alex Pereira got TKO’d by Artur Kyshenko (standing TKO, referee stopped the fight). No shame in that though, Kyshenko was considered one of the best active fighters at the time, an ATG kickboxer. Pereira got back in the win column seven months after this loss, knocking out Israel Adesanya.

All the way back in 2012, Alex Pereira got TKO’d by Jason Wilnis via leg kicks. Wilnis was the reigning defending It’s Showtime middleweight-champion at the time they fought, while Pereira was very green and fought Wilnis in just his 5th pro-kickboxing fight.

We probably all know how their most recent fight ended though… (timestamped):

Those are Pereira’s only two stoppage losses in kickboxing. Yeah he got stopped, but both occasions weren’t particularly close to getting knocked out cold like last week. He’s never experienced this kind of definitive loss prior to the 4th Adesanya fight.

Will this affect Pereira’s confidence (in his chin)? Will this affect Pereira’s fighting style?

Alex Pereira never was the type of fighter who uses a high-guard to block punches, he rather stays/moves out of punching range with his hands low to avoid getting hit, but he’s also not afraid to take one.
Pereira definitely gets hit at times (if his opponent matches his technical ability) when he attacks or closes the distance. We saw it last week..
Most of the times Alex doesn’t seem too worried about it though. Prior to the fourth fight against Izzy, Alex has never been knocked out.

I assume Pereira trusts the ability of his chin to take a good shot and his fights against Artem Vakhitov show this. Vakhitov landed a lot of clean overhand rights and 1-2’s right through Pereira’s guard, and he just ate them, not really worrying about blocking/dodging them.
This shows that Pereira is open to these kind of punches, but also that he really trusts his chin in taking a good shot.

Highlights of Artem Vakhitov vs Alex Pereira 1&2:

Getting knocked out like that for the first time in your career has to get in your head, especially for a guy who normally fights with so much confidence.

This raises the question: Will the Izzy-knockout affect Alex Pereira’s confidence and/or fighting style?

It really doesn’t have to be, but Alex may fight more tentative in future fights, not really trusting his chin anymore (not feeling 100% invincible like he did before). He may be less aggressive in exchanges, change a few details in his fighting style, and maybe abandon some of the aspects that made him the exciting fighter and great champion he is today.

Again, doesn’t have to be the case, maybe it didn’t even affect his chin at all, but getting knocked out cold for the first time ever is no joke.

I don't think it will affect him at all really. Alex is a consummate professional, and has been in the game long enough to shake it off and move on.

Obviously, he's never been put completely out like that, so we can't know for certain, but I'm sure he's already moved on from it and will be right back to his normal self.

Doubt it. He beat him 3 other times, so am sure he thinks he can/would beat him again.

In terms of being knocked out in general affecting his confidence though... dunno. Remains to be seen.

I voted yes, only because Alex is a great kickboxer and I think he’d recognised he made mistakes which led to his KO. Ultimately one of those mistakes was being overly aggressive which was driven by over confidence.
Watching it live I was actually kind of surprised with his comments between rounds 1 & 2, he was saying like ‘oh I’ve got him now’ or something to that effect from the translation. Didn’t seem the right attitude in the moment, in hindsight.

I don't think so. He is a kickboxer. Being knocked out is part of the sport. He has been concussed many times in training already. He will see it as a technical error rather than his chin giving out or whatever.

<{UberTS}> Why does your UberTs at the bottom look like that? <{UberTS}>

Has he ever been knocked out that badly before in kickboxing? I wouldn't be surprised if he is a bit gun shy coming back. We saw that with Usman only a few weeks ago - certainly didn't have the same confidence.
I kind of hope he takes a good amount of time to recover before he returns. If you come back too early these things have the tendency to happen again.
No, not once. The OP should tell you everything you need to know

Don't think so, other than he will probably not rush in with his hands down like that again.

He was actually methodical prior to that. His kicking game was chewing Izzy up, and he had his guard on point prior to the final sequence.
