International Will Russians Have Work Visa's Cancelled?

No ban but the athletes need to figure out banking so they can get paid by a US firm but not have it deposited in Russian banks or go to Russian tax revenue. Im sure Russian athletes have that pathway in the works but it may be time for them just permanently move to the west. Nothing like a war to pick off a countries best and brightest.

whats your take on this?

I agree it's stupid, like when FDR stuck all those Japanese Americans in camps after Pearl Harbor. Putin's gonna declare Martial Law because the Russians aren't happy either.

Ahh yes FIFA, the epitome of integrity and moral authority on righteousness

LOL. That's what people were pointing out.
Specially since the World Cup is about to be in Qatar, a country who bribed their way into being choosen as hosts and where flogging and stoning people is still a thing.

They choose to represent a nation. Same with that Chinese tennis player. Russia has a long history of offensive war and disputes. If you want to compete move somewhere else and represent them. It's not the right time to give Russia glory.

Ikea russia is closing its doors, the international cat federation is banning russian cats, a university in Milan wanted to ban Dostoievski for being russian (they bactracked though). A Poutine restaurant was sent threatening letters. This is getting ridiculous.

there are quite a few sports governing bodies removing Russia from their competitions.

idk if it makes sense for UFC to "ban" them but there's an issue with visas that may make it moot. I haven't read many updates but last week there was a lot of talk about various countries not allowing Russian athletes visas. if that's a problem, I don't think it's logical or practical for UFC to try to condense every Russian to fight island events only.

Blaming Russian citizens for what Putin is doing is like blaming American citizens for what Bush did in Afghanistan.
Except most Americans were against the invasion of Afghanistan. Putin is widely popular in Russia and have largely supported his agenda. This invasion isnt the first time either. The initial invasion lf Ukraine 2014, the 2008 invasion of Georgia. Experts believe Moldova could be next. Theyre threatening Finland and Sweden for considering joining NATO. They recently intervened in Anti russia protests in Kazakhstan. And largely the Russian populace has backed it.

Yes that's the Russian government, many citizens of Russia are absolutely against the war.

Makes sense except I want to see Bolkov fight Aspinall. Of course Putin won’t exit Ukraine solely because of athletes not being allowed to compete, but part of his propaganda machine has been to highlight Russian athletes’ success.

I think most Russians are against this war and the more they see that is taken away from them, the more they will be dissatisfied. They are losing jobs, money, can’t compete in sports, can’t travel. Worst case they are being pushed into becoming North Korean zombies, best case there will sooner or later be an uprising. The more the people are suffering, the more will demonstrate against the ruler(s) of Russia. This could eventually lead to other with power having a good reason to get rid of Putin.

Overall, it’s impossible to say what will happen as it’s all pure speculation. If I had to bet, Putin will either disappear or end up behind bars solely due to the financial crisis Russia will suffer in the near future.

Apparently reading comprehension isnt your strong suit. Sure "many" are against it on the basis that they have 140m people so of course there will be a sizeable number. But the overwhelming majority of Russians share anti western sentiment and have largely back Putin in his nearly 20 years of reign

Yeah, this shit usually doesn't work as intended. Just look at Cuba. The US embargo and sanctions against them have been going on for decades, and the regime is still standing years after Castro's death.

I don't even understand the point of the embargo. Ok we were mad they went commie during the red scare. But at this point the government has been in power for 60 years. It isn't going anywhere and doesn't pose a threat to the U.S. The best way to move them towards capitalism would be to open up relations.

This is blatantly false. Americans widely supported the war in Afghanistan and Bush was highly popular at the time.

Who's idea was it to ban Russian fighter, lukes?

fucking dumb.

As much as I believe that comparing the American invasion of Afghanistan (which, by the way was part of an extremely large international coalition of nations that sent military and supplies) to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is absolutely non-sensical, the American population was very much for the invasion of Aghanistan. The images of the Twin Towers falling, the people jumping from the top floors, the Pentagon being hit, the plane going down in Pennsylvania were very much on Americans minds. Right or wrong, Americans on the whole were seething and wanted blood.

The invasion of Iraq would have been a (somewhat) better example.

Do you think they they should ban Russian fighters from competing in the UFC?
Or
do you think that it's unfair to punish the fighters who have obviously nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine.

Definitely incredibly unfair to punish individual fighters because of the politics of the country they are from. There's no way Dana will play into that.

Visa situation will take this out of Dana's hands.

We all know he won't want to get involved, it's not in his interests, as always.
