To be honest, my money would be on Diaz or ferguson to beat Conor. If Diaz fights him again, I will be hoping Diaz wins. Second fight was great!
 
As far as I've read Khabib's suspension is supposed to be around 3 months and he won't get stripped. Conor won't fight any time earlier than in 3 months. You really think they're going to make an interim title fight between him and Tony? Come on. Tony will fight Khabib next, everything else would be an absolute joke. And an insult to Tony who has earned this shot. A Tony vs Conor fight next would only happen if Khabib got suspended for something like a year. Or if Conor agrees to take the spot Tony took on the 229 card and basically keeps himself open to step up if one has to pull out again. But we know that won't happen because Conor PPVs sell like crazy and they won't waste a fight of his on the co-mainer spot.

What you say about Diaz and Khabib rematches is correct though, which is why I think a rematch with Aldo or a fight against someone like Anthony Pettis is much more likely. Fights where the odds can be considered in Conor's favor and still big enough to revamp his image.

From a financial standpoint, it makes ZERO sense for the UFC to go to Khabib vs. TFerg, even if that is the most "legitimate" fight. Like it or not, anything Conor will FAR outdraw that matchup. There is WAY too much publicity (and potential money to be made) surrounding Conor vs. Khabib to do anything that might ruin that match-up from happening.

The way I see it, 1 of 2 things happens.
1. Khabib gets a 6 months or less suspension. Conor vs. Khabib rematch to strike while the iron is hot.
2. Kabib gets 1 year plus suspension. TFerg vs. Conor. Conor name and TFerg style make it a big seller despite Conor's loss, plus it will still be a title fight. If Conor wins he fights Khabib and they make a shit-ton of money. He loses and its Khabib vs. Tferg... hoping that Tferg can take some new fans from a win over Conor. With a loss they make Conor vs. Aldo rematch as a "grudge match" where they make money off of two "name" fighters that aren't anywhere near contention.

Like it or not, it's all about the $$$

I hope so but i doubt it. I don't think conor will take anything but a title fight. Wish he would fight ferg or Kevin Lee though.
 
For his sake, I hope it’s not. Tony is a BAD matchup for him with his length, ground game and durability. He’s a better version of Diaz who gives him fits. I’m not saying Conor can’t win as Tony does get hit but it’s too much of a risk.
I’d like to see him fight Gaethje. It’d be a ball to walls kind of fight but Conor’s superior boxing should outlast Gaethje’s go for broke style. That’d be one of the most fun fights to see imo.

Where have you been? It's been that way for over 10 years now. Money has always been the primary factor in marquee matchups. Sometimes that also lined up with the legitimately best fights to be made, from a sport perspective, but there have been plenty of time it hasn't.

Chael Sonnen ran his mouth into plenty of undeserved fights.
Look at the tail end of every superstars career where they get undeserved fights.
Brock Lesnar, Overeem, BJ Penn... the list goes on and on of fighters getting prominent placement in matchups they had no place in because they would sell.
 
I love McGregor but he unfortunately wants no part of Ferguson it seems. Even before 229, he was expressing more interest in defending against the winner of Diaz/Poirier than he was against Ferguson.

That fight is only slightly more winnable than Khabib, Lee destroys him imo. He's the last guy Conor should be fighting if they have more than just 1 more fight in mind for him. He's like 90% as bad a matchup for him as Khabib while being nowhere near the draw.

It's a lot about the $. But it's not all about the $. If it were, only GSP, Brock, Conor, and Ronda would ever headline PPV's.

Khabib and Fergie has won 22 consecutive LW fights between them. 11 each. They are fighting.

Big fine, short suspension, Khabib and Tony in early 2019. That's what's going to happen.

But ultimately it’s not thier choice. WWF, I mean UFC has to agree to and offer the fights.

The fighters can talk shit to each other on Twitter all they want won’t mean WWF puts them on a card together.

I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. I missed the whole Rhonda era and Conor’s as well before this fight.
 
In my world it would be:

Tony v. Khabib at 155
Conor v. GSP at whatever weight GSP can make

Wrong.

Fighters do not get to choose who they fight. But they do get to decide who they don't fight. Fighters can say No.

Khabib can absolutely tell the UFC to go fuck themselves if they offer him a Conor rematch. And there is not really much they can do. They can't strip Khabib for wanting to fight someone who deserves a shot over someone he just mauled who does not deserve one.
