Will Gillespie be Super-Khabib's kryptonite?

He's a NATIONAL D1 champion! Of course he is a better wrestler than Frankie, who was not even a D2 champion. Derp.
you dont need to be a national d1 champ to be a better mma wrestler. i guess robert whittaker vs yoel and GSP or jones vs cormier proves that point. he could get wrestle fked by makhachev like nik lentz did.

Gregor pushes an insane pace (like Khabib) and has never slowed down, even a little. I agree on the size/strength aspect. That's a hurdle for Gregor as Khabib is definitely bigger naturally. It's not even a question. Gregor likely could make 145 if he wanted. I honestly would give a cardio edge to Gregor based on the limited evidence we have, but it's probably negligible enough to not matter. I'd tend to agree technique is pretty even, although each seems to have areas where they are a bit better than the other.

The size may be too much to overcome for Gregor, but it would be interesting to see how Khabib would handle being the one defending an onslaught of TD's vs the one attempting them.
it would be interesting to see gregor defending an onslaught of tds vs the one attempting them vs unranked scrubs.

None of those guys you mentioned have close to the positional grappling from top position of Gregor. RDA is excellent with top position, but I think he tried one half assed TD of Khabib and was unsuccessful, so that really showed nothing. Abel and Tibau arent grapplers like Gregor, or even in the same stratosphere. I will agree that Khabib off his back is WAY underrated though. He is slick, no doubt.

Gregor hasn't gone more than 3, but the guy has never slowed, even a tiny bit. Khabib slowed after emptying his tank in rd 2 vs Conor. He basically took rd 3 off. He also slowed vs Iaquinta pretty noticeably after rd 3. I do agree, without having actually seen Gregor go past rd 3 there's guessing involved.
khabib didnt slow down vs iaquinta. go watch round 5. everyone is acting as if round 5 doesnt exist where he took him down with ease and almost finished it.

Kos never even tried to implement his wrestling until after his face was mangled. He really thought he could strike with GSP.

I think Gregor would honestly go with his strength and see how it stacked up. I think its more likely we'd see a hell of a lot of cage stalling with each guy taking turns trying to be the bully. I don't see Gregor being content to stand outside and strike.

I didn't mean exactly like that fight; I meant in the sense two wrestlers would face each other and one would jab the other in the face repetitively.

People have a hard time recognizing greatness until they see them run through an entire division. The dude showed signs of greatness last night. He just looked different...that was total domination. He could very well be the next great lightweight
kevin lee looked like a god vs barboza too. LOL. gregor is fighting scrubs with no grappling or wrestling. sure he looks like a destroyer now. barboza looked like a destroyer vs hooker but looked like a child vs lee and khabib. just cause you beat some low level strikers dont mean youre the goat.

Of course it does not matter to MMA, but realize Bobby Knuckles is also a national champion wrestler in AU. And, Jones was also a JUCO champ, given a ride to Iowa (one of the best wrestling schools) and would have been an incredibly elite NCAA D1 wrestler had he not been knocking up white chicks in the midwest. It's entirely possible Khabib could do to Gregz what his buddy did to Lentz, but Nik Lentz was also not a D1 national champ and no where near Gregor's level. I do not recall a time when I have seen a D1 national champ get physically dominated in grappling in MMA; knocked out and submitted, yes, but physically dominated
which is Khabib's whole game? No.

Man, I wish Ben Askren could make 155. He'd blast through Gregor and have him helpless in under a minute.

I'm the biggest Askren fan on here but that simply isn't true. Askren has faced 2 D1's (Ryan Thomas and Jay Heiron) and they both took him to a decision...many think Heiron won (i don't). And neither of those guys were anything special in D1.

I think Khabib is a better MMA wrestler and a much better grappler.

But regardless, we will need to wait before Gillespie fights any contender.

Here's where your argument falls apart: Frankie wrestled at Clarion yes, which is a D2 school in every sport BUT wrestling, which they are in fact D1. Wanna know who else went to a school that is D2 in every sport BUT wrestling? Gillespie. Like Koscheck, he attended Edinboro on a wrestling scholarship.

Edinboro University is a small college western PA much like Clarion and much like Clarion, they have an outstanding wrestling program. Get the fuck out of here with your no-homework doing ass.

Lock Haven too.

I think Kurt Angle wrestled for Clarion.

Frankie also wrestled for national HS powerhouse Blair Academy.

The best wrestler Khabib has faced was NAIA (Trujillo).

Based upon accomplishments Gregor is a better wrestler....
Khabib's striking is only sightly better than journeyman...
Gregor has never appeared even remotely tired in any of his 13 fights...
A journeyman striker that outstruck every fighter he has ever fought in the UFC

Not a fucking chance. Gillespie is skilled and all, but Khabib is just way too strong for him. He had problems keeping Medeiros down - what in the hell makes you believe he could do anything to a fighter who manages to keep up with Luke fucking Rockhold and totaly manhandles RDA? Khabib by brute power 10-0.

Hendricks was still good post USADA, only thing that changed was he started to fight the new evolution of guys were athletic skillful and outsized him.

Yes after he sort of took rd 4 off. Similar to how he took rd 3 off a bit vs Conor, got his energy back, and finished in rd 4.
